                                 Thorfinn's POV - From Chapter 5

Gods, where did these bastards come from? I thought they were Askeladd's men, but knowing him, I'd already been left for dead. I've got no choice but to fight! But that girl... I'm sure she would come running after me. Oh well, whatever happens to her isn't really of my concern. I just have to find Askeladd!

"Come 'ere, kiddy!" Shit, he's fast! As he swung his poleaxe, I dashed under and slit his neck, spurting blood everywhere. The smirk on his face slid right off.

                                                              ...

As I was fighting the last of them, I heard footsteps behind me-- but they were light and fast! [Y/N]! Fuck, why'd she had to come now? Only three men left, and I could tell the last one was well aware of her entrance. He was older than the others and between the wrinkles, his brown eyes glinted with lust. Though I shouldn't have looked twice as he grabbed her and ripped open her nightgown, some invisible force implored me to move--to act!

When I stabbed the fucker in the nape, [Y/N] began to faint; the bruises spattered across her face from that old Viking's attempt to nullify her making me shiver. As I wiped the blood and tears from her face, the other two men came to finish me. Damn, I'm surrounded! I'd have to be careful, so as not to endanger her. Wait... is that her father?

"[Y/N]! ARE YOU OKAY?" His voice was breaking as he ran, making it apparent that he'd been searching for a while. To the sound of her voice, [Y/N] shifted a bit.

"Don't come near! Stay away!" My protests fell on deaf ears, however; the man bolted to his comatose daughter. Where the Vikings were.

In an instant, he was cut down, the man's head spinning off its base. The image brought back vistas of Father. Like a reed doll, my body snapped into action, immediately beheading both men in a flash. [Y/N's] white linen gown was covered in blood.

                                                             ...

I'd been carrying her for about an hour, to the other side of the mountain. She bounced in my arms, her long, swaying hair matted with blood and dirt. As my feet dragged along the grass, I could feel the fucking break in my left leg.

Just my being there completely ruined her life.

What am I going to do? At this point, I can't leave her, but how could I take he--

Large, glossy eyes opened, reflecting the brilliant moon. What I had said next I wish I took back, but the words had already escaped my mouth.

"Your father is dead."

"W-What?" Shit.

"Your father is dead." I couldn't help but think of Father again, the arrows' image burned into my memory.

Though she cried violently, I had to keep walking. Though my inflamed wrist could barely keep her up, I had to keep walking. Though it reminded me of my younger self, shivering in the cold with frozen tears, I had to keep walking.

Author's Note: Sorry for the late chapter! I've been really unmotivated to write so this chapter is pretty short, but I promise I'll post more consistently soon Xoxo
