Morning arose. The beams of light shine through the tent. I rub my eyes and put on a white shirt and blue jeans. The others were already getting ready to head. I bring my bag pack over and start to load up some cans of beer.
We arrive at The Scarlet Canyon. A new area on the journey. I cross it out on my map. I've always loved people watching. I know that might sound weird but trying to read a strangers emotions is so entertaining to me. We enter the gas station to see to red neck classic men sitting chomping on hot dogs. A teen and a little boy, guessing they're related. I finally know the groups names now. There's Brooke, Marcus, Kev, Tyler, Harper and Kali. I order a coffee and some fries. We sit at a booth and try to fit in. Kali's shoulder presses into mine. We finish and head outside. We wait for a bus to show up.
"So where we going?" asked Kev.
"I'm glad you asked" says Marcus, "We are going to be attending a party".
"What kinda party?" I ask.
"Its a party for.." he pauses, "Aarav Fitzpatrick supporters!". My eyes widen.
"Wait, what!?" shouts Tyler.
"We're going to trash it" giggles Marcus. Tyler looks unimpressed.
"So we're going to break into a high-security party and trash it? Great plan" Tyler says. I hear the sarcasm in his voice and chuckle.
The bus drives to the party. Its filled with country folk that only care about Jesus and Aarav Fitzgerald; the soon to be government. There's a massive open tent with a stage and a bar longer than a school bus. Purple, red and green lights flare the grounds and tents. Just before we go in I spot some sketchy people over at a table in the corner next to a giant rock. They're doing cocaine. What did I expect. Anytime a teenager does anything that's sort of illegal, they get taken by the government and sent to camps in the desert and never return home.
We all have black hoodies on That Marcus stole yesterday. I guess he has been planning this for a while. The music blares loud. Classic country. Typical Fitzies. We climb over a large rock. Tyler whips out a firecracker."You're kidding" whispers Brooke. Marcus shushes her. Me and Tyler sneak down to the toilet cubicles. Carefully, I place a firecracker in the second cubical. Tyler lights it and we dash into a bush. I cover my ears. Screaming and chaos rise from the crowds. Why are they so scared from a little bang. I peak out the bush. red and yellow flames glare at me. smoke fills my nostrils. I freeze. I feel tugs on my arm. My heart is on the floor. my eyes are locked on the massacre before me. A trail of flame climbs up the tent. I feels it reflecting off my eyeballs.
"C'mon!" shouts Tyler. Everyone runs for the exit. My feet go faster than my body. My shock falls out the window as sirens scream at me. Flashing lights embed me. I hear shouting but my brain ignores it. My friends all shout with joy and that's when my realisation hits. The government tortures teens like us everyday. They kill and forget. If we don't do something they will keep killing. so I embrace the crime I just committed. The police's pace picks up. We all run with fear and excitement. We reach our van. I try to open the doors but it takes a million years. i always feel like when you're in a chaotic moment things are harder to do. Finally the door slides open. I throw myself in along with the others. Kev starts the van before we close the door. we share a cheer when all of a sudden gun shot phase past the van. My chest drops. My biggest fear is getting shot. I'm surprised the police haven't caught up with us. Turns out the others popped their tires while me and Tyler ran from the fire.
