The sound of the door creaking open jolted me awake. I turned to look at the intruder to see my maid, Lily.
"We must get you ready for your outing, mistress." She readjusted her glasses with a stern gaze.
"Must you wear those horrid tools." I sighed at the unfashionable and ugly tinted glasses she and many of the household's servants took to wearing recently.
"I do this for the safety of my heart and stability of my mind." She shook her head adamantly and quickly pushed those star-shaped neon glasses back up.
"Where are we going?" I asked as I sat in front of the dressing table.
"The eldest young lady would like to take you for a trip by the lakeside in hopes of enjoying a picnic with you." She answered as she held out a bowl of water to wash my face with.
Skin-on-skin contact has been forbidden after a bout with a young maid that I refuse to go into detail about. A gloved hand to wash my face was uncomfortable so I forced my maids to allow me to wash my own face at least.
"Oh! That does sound quiet exciting!" I hummed happily as Lily towelled my face off.
"..." She paused when she saw the probing look in my eyes.
"Hmm..." I hummed while tilting my head.
She sighed heavily before speaking, very reluctantly. "I recently heard a rumour that his imperial highness had completely destroyed the count's phoenix nasturtium field in a tantrum. The land has been left barren after his latest attack."
"How could he act in such a barbaric fashion? Wasn't the count's field listed as the number one sight for natural beauty in the capital?" I gasped in shock.
"Not only that but that specific flower is so rare that the country of its origin can no longer export them to our kingdom. I heard the countess fainted after seeing the empty fields. Apparently her husband had planted those flowers to profess his love for her." She continued whispering as she combed through my hair.
"How cruel, such a romantic gesture destroyed by the imperial prince. They can't even voice their anger and heartbreak because of his status." I said while shaking my head.
How could the emperor allow his son to act in the fashion? Shouldn't he keep a tighter leash around him since he knows of all the bad deeds his child is doing? The poor count's family!
"Laila, are you ready?" The door swung open and hit the wall with a bang. "Ah, why does it take you so long to get ready?" She moaned while walking towards me.
"Eldest lady." Lily bowed in greeting before continuing to tie my corset.
"Just leave those pants on and let's go." She pulled me away from the maid and began dragging me out in my half-dressed state.
The pants she was referring to were the culottes that are worn underneath a dress. Not even at all similar to the pair of trousers that she was wearing.
"Sis-" My voice was quickly drowned out by Lily who shouted out in distress.
"Eldest lady, you can't! These glasses aren't strong enough for the servants in the hallways." My maid tried to pull me back but she could not beat my sister's monstrous strength.
"Kya~" The poor maid who was just passing by was assaulted by the sight of me in essentiallymy undergarments. She swiftly fell to the ground with a stream of blood running from her nose. Her rose-tinted glasses were tinted a darker shade as they lay discarded in a pool of her own blood.
"Ha, what did I tell you?" Lily sighed while holding onto her forehead with a tired expression.
"Sorry." Sylvia said sheepishly.
Lily dragged me back into my room as my sister threw the body of the maid over her shoulder and dashed to the doctor's office.
As I climbed down the stairs with my sister I saw my younger brother, Alphie, crying by the entrance.
"I want to go too! Why does only that idiot get to go with sister?" He stomped while waving his arms around angrily.
"I'm your sister too you know." Sylvia pushed down his head with a smile. "So why is it that you call Laila so respectfully but call me an idiot?" She asked with an evil smirk while rubbing his head with force.
"Sister, you'll break his neck with that kind of strength." I pulled him to safety and he quickly wrapped his arms around my skirt.
"I won't let my sister leave, she can only go if you take me with you." He stuck his tongue out at Sylvia and the flustered servants.
"Agh, but this was only meant to be me and Laila!" Sylvia cried out while rubbing her hand over her face. "You already had tea with her last week. I didn't interfere then, did I?"
"Well, privilege of the youngest." He shrugged with an arrogant smirk not befitting his age. "Right, sister?" He looked up at me with glittering eyes and an adorable smile.
"Yes, he's right." I replied, stroking his head gently.
"Okay, okay but I'll be sitting next to her on the carriage. Hahah!" She ran off towards the carriage with a maniacal laugh.
"Hmph, what an idiot. How can she sit next to you if she chooses her seat first?" Alphie scoffed as he held my hand. "You'll be sitting next to me, right sister?" He spoke in a milky tone as he shot me his cutest smile.
"Of course, of course." I nodded in agreement as we made our way to the carriage.
