Little: Kwazii
CG: Paani
————————————————————————
TW: transphobia, abuse
————————————————————————
Kwazii's genderfluidity wasn't often talked about among the crew. It still existed, of course. There were plenty of times where Kwazii's pronouns badge would suddenly change to be she/her or they/them. It still happened, it just didn't come up in conversation as much as Dashi being trans, or Shellington being gay.

Paani wondered why this was. He knew that Kwazii was genderfluid. He'd been made aware of that on the first day. But for some reason, Kwazii never talked about it.

Paani didn't understand why this was. Until about 3 months after he joined the Octonauts.

Kwazii was hiding in his room. The voices had become too much for him.
'You're a monster'
'You don't deserve this'
'You're a sociopath'

All in the voice of his father.

"Lieutenant? Are you in there?"
The voice of Octo-Agent Paani came into the kitten's room. Kwazii was startled.
"I'm fine, go away." He said in his cockney accent. The accent that his father hated.

Of course, Kwazii hadn't known Paani to be anything but stubborn. The Octo-Agent entered Kwazii's room to find him curled up in a ball on the floor.
"K-Kwazii? Are you alright?" Paani asked as he knelt down by where Kwazii was laying.

The kitten didn't say anything in response. Then, Paani noticed claw marks on his arms. Cat claw marks.

"Kwazii. It's not your fault."

Kwazii looked up at the macaque. "It's- wha?"

"Whatever you think you've done or said, it's not your fault."

The pirate stared up at him, not understanding fully what he meant, not caring either.

They looked at each other for a few seconds. Then, Kwazii spoke up.
"I shouldn't feel like a girl."

Paani looked incredibly shocked. He had known about Kwazii's past and his mental health issues, but he had no idea that they were this bad. Was Kwazii really berating himself for his own identity? The thought made the macaque's head spin.

Paani sat next to the lieutenant. Something in his mind made him feel extremely protective over Kwazii. He pulled the kitten into a sitting position and began stroking him, earning a purr in response.

Kwazii slowly began to fall asleep against Paani.
They rested against each other as the sky began turning black. Paani wasn't sure what he was going to do.
But right now, that didn't matter.

All that mattered was Kwazii.
