Third Person POV

A huge poser had been plastered on a bulletin board at the front of the school
Flyers were handed out to the top students in each class even the first years

A chance to work with the top heroes?

A wonderful opportunity indeed for other students but for Touya maybe not. His father is a top hero after all. Although they don't have the best relationship he still wishes to work closer with him so he could witness every achievement

He'll pass

He threw out the flyer and headed to his room
Calling Tenko for their nightly chat after homework

"You're not attending?"

"Do I have to?"

"Well no.. but it's a great opportunity!"

"Um hello? Top hero's son here!"

"But still..! The agency won't last forever.."

"C'mon Ten-"

The door slammed open in coming his father
Touya sat up immediately

"Hey dad.! What's up?"

He said with the most presentable smile he could do
He stared at him clearly not in the mood for a proper conversation holding up the flyer

"When we're you going to tell me about this?"
He asked sternly

Touya had no answer. He was never planning to tell him so all he could do was shamefully avoid eye contact
"You were planning on signing up right?"
His father asked so coldly and stern however it seemed more like a demand rather than a question
He wanted his son to win, train under the very best, to finally end the never ending streak of the undefeatable number one hero

"Of course I was gonna tell you! I actually already signed up."
He lied, something he doesn't usually do which was enough to convince him.

"Good. I'll be watching."

He backed out and shut the door

"Guess who's gonna be at the contest"
Touya told Tenko who had been quietly listening to the conversation through the phone
Gaining a stupid snicker

The competition was the next day
Touya had trained extra hard the past few weeks since his father was actually gonna be there

He couldn't sleep
Not because he was excited but because he was nervous
He always wanted his father's attention but what if he fails? What if he misses the competition? What if he doesn't even show up? What if he has to go against him?

The top three students of each class was picked and of course Tenko was chosen
As expected, he was always a perfectionist

He wanted Tenko to win but he also didn't want to lose

He knows how badly Tenko wants to win
He knows how devastated he would be if he lost
He knows how much this could help him
But he also knows how much this could help himself

The day of the competition. He barely got any sleep

A total of 12 classes
36 students

Hero course
Support course
Management

General studies was a no show

The rules were simple
Either knock your opponent out of the circle or disable their quirk
No cross-teaming
Do as much as you want as long as you don't kill the other

It was class A versus B

Then the winner of the first years go against the winner of the second years and then against the third years

Tenko passed both rounds which was no surprise but that also unfortunately meant Touya's team was going against his.

Both teams stepped into the arena

The fight was going strong for both teams
So far no one has been eliminated. Yet.

"Akari-!"

Tenko screamed out for his classmate as he used his decay to form a barrier between Akari and her opponent leaving himself wide open for a attack

This was the perfect opportunity to eliminate him

A direct hit to the head, knocking him down
A fast figure sped up to him pinning his arms behind his back

Everyone else was too busy dealing with their own issue to be able to help him

Touya witnessed everything from the corner of his eye but he couldn't help

Perhaps it was for the best if Tenko got eliminated. He turned his attention back onto the first year he's fighting

However even through the commotion in the crowd he could hear it
He realized what his teammate was doing to Tenko

Not getting him eliminated by removing him from the circle but by disabling his quirk

He's getting his hands broken

His eyes widened as he sees Tenko's hand slowly get bent out of shape. The cracking of the bones

Touya's POV

I can't stand to see this happen to him
I can't stand being here watching knowing that I can, that I should help

But he's here
He's watching
Waiting
I know he is
I can feel his eyes on me, waiting for me to screw up so he'll be able to toss me aside and deem me useless, weak.
I can't afford to lose

But Tenko..

.

There isn't enough time especially not with this damn first year in my way
I was planning on going easy but he just won't back down
My best friend is worth so much more than what that stupid old man thinks of me

I gave a hard kick right at that first year's stomach sending him flying out the circle

Everyone in the crowd was screaming at this point since this was the first elimination of the round
A buzzer went off and some guy shouted "HIROSHI TANAKA ELIMINATED" through the microphone

I held my hand back and sent a powerful ball of flame directly at my teammate immediately knocking him off of Tenko

The crowd, everyone stopped. They stood in silent shock until the buzzer went off again

"TOUYA TODOROKI DISQUALIFIED"

I quickly and quietly exited the circle

I sat in hallway just wondering if I made the right choice

Well either way one of us will get that lifetime opportunity and I'm fine with that

I heard heavy footsteps coming my way. I don't even need to look up to know who it is.
I waited for the scolding,for the anger but that never came he just.. passed by

That wasn't so bad.

I'm starting to think I made the right decision

I went back out just in time for them to announce the winners
Tenko's class won, he noticed me and waved, god he looked so happy the way he smiled at me was so pure. It was so worth it

My classmates were fuming though they were screaming at me

I felt sorry for them but they're weren't even able to beat someone first years so they probably weren't fit to win anyways

But Tenko.. he deserved to win
