Information about the competitors are usually displayed on the electric board as they enter, I'm sure Calem is watching keenly as well.

"Her ace is a Galie," he muttered, "do you think it could be a mega?"

I nodded silently, "most likely, her Uncle also has a mega, right?" I squeezed my eyes, trying to remember Calem's father's story. "Abomasnow," he replied, "gave him quite the trouble back then."

I sighed, "like uncle, like niece I guess."

"Actually, the correct phrase is-"

"Please shut up."

The introductions for the finalists have been done. It turns out Frostine is just as good at snowboarding as she is in Pokémon Battling, being the winner of the Kalos
nationals for three times in a row, excluding all of the other major competitions.

At this point I was really nervous. Who knows just how powerful she is, given the fact that she can juggle both professional snowboarding and competitive Pokémon and succeed in both of them.

Lia pointed at the top of the hill, guiding me out of my thoughts, "I think she's starting," she stated.

Professional snowboarding in this world is a mix between snowboarding and contest shows. As the trainer slides down, their partner Pokémon will assist them in doing tricks. There are formats that don't allow Pokémon assistance, such as the half-pipes and racing disciplines, as it would "cause disadvantages" for different competitors.

The disciplines Frostine partake in just happen to not allow Pokemons.

With a zoom in onto her face, I noticed something.

"On the side of her goggle," I whispered, "there's a key stone embedded!"

Calem's face became serious, after all, mega evolution was his specialty.

We watched her sweep the competition. First the Kanto champion, then the Unova champion, and finally, defeating the Galar champion with a 0.46 second difference moved her into the finals.
The other person who managed to advance into the finals is a snowboarder from Paldea

"That guy Grusha is only a little older than we are," Lia said, "yet he's participating in international competitions."

Calem clicked his tongue, "my father was 10 when he won the World Championship Cup."

"We don't compare ourselves to prodigies."

"Speaking of prodigies," I nodded my head toward the hill, "they're  going next."

From the screen, it was obvious he is still quite young, but the vibes he and Frostine give off are slightly different. She had pale blonde hair while Grusha had what I would like to call highlighter blue. Frostine felt more like a celebrity, smiling at the cameras, giving good reactions to advancement while Grusha avoided cameras at all cost and always hid his face in his scarf. They both give off different kinds of iciness, Frostine being the untouchable flower while Grusha is the aloof, reserved hermit.

Frostine was the red course and Grusha was the blue. Everybody held their breath as the three beeps began to sound.

With the final beep, the two finalists pushed off the iron bars. Half way down they were still going toe to toe, with Grusha being in the lead by 0.10 seconds.

Down to the last third of the course. Both of them are going strong, balancing from edge to edge, touching all of the gates.

In the last 5 seconds or so, Grusha slipped and missed the last gate, thus putting him down as DNF. If he had managed to make contact with it his speed would've placed him in first.
