It's been a long work week for both Aki and Angel. They just want to release and unwind after climbing mountains of paperwork, and kayaking through rivers of complaints. To Angel, releasing and unwinding might mean reading a cheesy romance novel in irony and sardonically chuckling at the overuse of cliché tropes. Also, it might mean getting three scoops on his ice cream instead of two.
For Aki, there is no such thing as "releasing" or "unwinding" during a working period because he's a corporate machine that only stops to sleep. He's admittedly successful and hireable, but he lacks self control when it comes to boundaries, and that unhealthy habit bleeds into other areas of his life as well: such as relationships.
He's managed to protect his virginity thus far, but Aki has no clue how to set boundaries. His idea of a boundary is simply never doing an activity that he desires deeply to do with his lover—sex, that is—solely because he doesn't know what he wants, or rather he doesn't know how to express his needs and wants.
Angel on the other hand, although trampling through his awkwardness and jackass personality, can concisely set boundaries. They aren't god-tier heaven and hell boundaries, because nothing is ever so black or white, but he at least is blunt and communicates what he's feeling.
If Aki and Angel are to have sex, it seems Angel would take the initiative to lead.
This wasn't something either of them worried about all that much, since Aki and Angel at this point in their relationship have only just kissed and slept in the same bed. Sleeping in the same bed one might expect something would happen, but that only works smoothly in the movies. In real life, people have all kinds of reasons for their leave of sexual absence: they're insecure, it's too hot, they're sore, they're sick, they're on their period, their breath stinks, and the list continues. For some people, none of those things matter—cool. For others however, such as Aki Hayakawa, everything in life is complex and subject to overthinking and anxiety. Everything matters.
Not so cool.
Aki craves intimacy with Angel but can't seem to "shoo" away the awkwardness demon on his shoulder to initiate such personal contact. Besides, they've both been pretty busy at work lately and it isn't like they could just "do it" at the office—although that smut trope can be done tactfully, it isn't their thing.
