Here at Japan's largest Public Safety Devil Hunter academy, Tokyo Devil Hunter University, or TDHU, one can find many types of bright, young pupils among the student body: there are students seeking adventure and action, or students bound by revenge; there's a selection of students who don't even know why they're here, but they're here; some students major in the general studies, some major in a bachelor of science to get a specific degree; some students carry on to be devil hunters, and others will work a nine-to-five, dead-end job for the next forty-odd years in an office cubicle for a boss that does far less but makes a far higher wage. Regardless of the kind of student one is, they'll be sure to find a place here at Tokyo Devil Hunter University!
Some students might even find true love...
Today is a big day for many students: the first day of a new semester. The leaves are falling and collecting in scattered piles on the wet cement sidewalks leading into the grandiose brick establishment. For some students, like freshmen Denji Hayakawa and Power Hayakawa, it's an exciting new adventure into the world of college and new, young-adult freedoms. For the seasoned students, like their elder brother Aki Hayakawa, it's another drab semester at another drab university, with another drab wave of bright teenagers coming along to be a nuisance and get in his way.
Aki Hayakawa, a twenty-one-year-old senior at TDHU, is rather experienced with the art of ignoring his needy juniors. He always passes along the task of freshman orientation and being a "good senior" to his fellow "good" seniors, Kobeni-chan and Arai-kun, a sweet pair of students from his biology class.
Kobeni, one year older than Aki, is a kind and sweet young woman who diligently does her schoolwork and can almost always be seen in the library reading with Arai, the guy who she has always had some kind of romantic tension with but has yet to confess her feelings to.
Lucky for her, Arai harbors the same feelings.
The pair is fated!
Aki knows the pining duo from one of his many science-based courses. Aki is a STEM major, so majority of his classes are geared towards his hopeful future career in being a researcher of devil behaviour and evolution, which would place him as a respected member of the Public Safety Devil Hunters—and closer to his goal.
When Aki was a child, no more than ten, his family was in a devil-related incident that was apart of a larger-scale devil terrorist attack.
