A Ball

"Oh no oh no oh no oh no, where are you-" Kat whispered to herself anxiously, as she rushes through the plethora of guests all dressed lavishly from head toe in countless jewels, and decorated so elegantly in layers of the finest fabrics that seemed to radiant as they melodically chat amongst one another. Kat zig zags her way while trying her best not to bump into anyone and cause a scene under the beautiful ball room.

"Pardon me but have you seen a girl around 5'9 who's wearing red earrings and has kinda messy brown hair around?" asked kat to two guests who apologetically shook they're heads as they watch the young woman depart off to find her friend that she has been looking for.

The music starts to pickup up the pace all of a sudden causing Kat to become more frantic than before. With notes of violin and chellos dancing in the air, ever so elegantly weaving through the enchanted glow of the party and fabricating its way into an ocean of harmonies. 

 "Fuck where are you- she couldn't have gone too far" chocked Kat. Beads of sweat forms on her face as she climbs the velvet stairs that seemed to go on endlessly towards the gold ceiling that hangs what seems like hundreds of diamond chandeliers that were probably made by the finest crafts man in all of the land.

More running and more searching, but kat finally spotted her naive partner. 

And her partner was of course flirting with yet another girl.

Kat rolled her eyes and made her way towards the two who were staring intensely in each others eyes on the balcony.

Kat storms onto the balcony barging towards the love birds.

"Woah there! Ah! My lovely partner kat, so how has this fine evening been treating y-"

"We. have. to. go. atlas." Kat sternly cuts the taller one off with hints of anger just ready to burst as she glares intensely in her partner's hazel eyes. 

"Ive literally been searching for you everywhere and you cant just disappear like that! Jeez-Anyway come on we have to go and catch our boat right now", Kat grabs Atlas's wrist as she pulls them out of the coolness of the night.

The girl that Atlas has been flirting with stands there awkwardly and fumbles with her hands at the sudden burst of Kat's appearance. Atlas glances at the awkward pretty girl and frowns. 

"Hey hey wait Kat, come onnn we'll make it. Why dont I just meet you at the dock and you can take your time getting there?" 

Kat turns to face atlas's face and returns an even more annoyed kat. 

"Atlas, we have to get there now. I seriously cannot have you staying behind again or else we wont get to our next destination and then we cant countinue-" Atlas cuts kat off as she frees herself from her partner's grip. 

"Yea yea I got you. You wanna get there on time and all but have a little fun Kat! anyway i got some business I gotta finish so if you dont mindddd", Atlas starts walking with the girl in her usual charismatic voice and heads back inside the party of laughter and warmth as she leaves kat there alone. Alone to have to deal with this mission.

Kat hesitates if she should chase atlas or just leave them be. But in exhaustion from the vibrant night and searching for her friend, she lets them be.

"You know what. Whatever, she says she'll get there on time so she will." Kat tries to convince herself and leans against the cool stone of the balcony and finally allows herself to take a deep breath of the cool salty air. 

Maybe she is right, kat thought to herself. Maybe she should just live a little and have some fun while they're on this journey. But the stakes are too high. And Kat knows it in her gut that theres no time to idly have fun while the reward of completing this mission can and most definitely change her life forever.
