I climb the cobblestone stairs. I approach the door. I push it open and inhale the smoke and smell of cigarettes. The grand staircase is laid with a soft green-velvet carpet and adorned with a gold trim. The polished wooden handrails, glisten in the sun. The smooth texture soft underneath my palm. It's only my 10th day but I feel comfortable and familiar with the building and my co-workers.I turn right and head to the storage closet. I find the weed and the paper. I roll my joint. I feel like a pro at this point. I light it and walk to Scott's office. I push open the glass door and am met with his familiar face. He smiles and puts his cigarette in the ashtray, killing the flame. The scent of tobacco is deafened by the smell of my joint. I pass it to Scott; he takes a puff and relaxes in his chair.
"Thanks," he says. I can tell he is hiding something from me. A look crosses his face, as if he feels like he wants to tell me but knows he can't.
"Tell me," I say.
"Tell you what?"
"You're hiding something from me"
"What? N-No I'm n-not""Sure."
"Ugh fine. The boss. She wants to see you. Says its important. I think its coz you got caught doing a line in the janitors closet on Sunday."
"Shit." I exclaim. I didn't know she knew. "Well, I best be off then." "Have fun," Scott says as I close the door behind me.
