episode three.

entering the school, i meet with the one and only xavier. walking up the stairs to the main hall. his hand brushing through his hair with stress.

my eyes widen at the thought of him. if stay silent, maybe he will just walk past.

no, wrong. he spots me, rushing over and holding onto my waist.

erm.

"lila? where did you go?"

"i- uhm, got lost in the woods."

i look up at the boy, my scratches showing in the light.

his jaw clenches, "who did that to you?"

i stay silent, i don't really have an answer.
"i don't know."

i lean into him, not on purpose. "i just want to go to sleep.."

i leave him, warmth leaving my body. i slowly walk myself up the stairs with my weak legs.

all i want is sleep.

"lila?" he calls out for me. waiting a second until i turn around. he's behind me.

"i'm sorry i didn't believe you about the monster."

"it's fine." i shake it off and continue walking.

"that's what hurt you, wasn't it?" he asks me, knowing the answer.

"i don't know what you're talking about." i deny, not even looking at him.

i can't look at him and lie.

he sighs, "goodnight lilac!"
he yells at me.

i turn around one last time and smile at him.

the next morning, ms. weens and some other teachers hand out envelopes. they contain a job you have to work on that day.

i got a the weathervane. the coffee shop tyler works at. for gods sake.

hopping off the bus, i spot the boy.
staring at a white wall.

walking over to him i ask, "why are you staring at a blank wall?"

"it wasn't black on last out reach day."

"hmm, what have you got today?"

"weathervane, what about you?" i look down at his fingers, crossed.

"same." i smile brightly at him.

"no way! are you lying?" he asks me, hoping i'm not joking.

"i'm not lying." i laugh as he walks me over to some bleachers.

xavier sits next to me whilst headmaster weens talks, "we have a special announcement."

the crowd applause as the mayor heads into our eye sight.

"welcome, welcome, nevermore academy. now, on behalf of the entire jericho community, we are so, so pleased to have you all here today."
