Oh wow. The series is almost over.

The one question. What was it? It was on the tip of his tongue. Unfortunately all Nightmare could taste on his tongue now was salt.
But until he could remember "the one question", he asked different questions.
How did he get so twisted into Shattered's iron grip? How was he trapped like this at the mercy of the ocean's tides?

At that point, Nightmare wasn't even that afraid of the water. He'd grown numb to his phobia as he'd learned that there were far worse things to be afraid of.
   Such as: drowning, breaking, Shattered.

Nightmare's body ached. More than 'ached'. He was so tired that he couldn't sleep. He couldn't move, sometimes he couldn't even bother trying to swim. It didn't matter. His body was growing too weak to fight the ocean even when he tried.

"Breakfast!☆" Shattered skipped over to him, with Hate waiting for him nearby.
Shattered kneeled down as Nightmare didn't react to him. Shattered puffed up his cheeks at Nightmare's lack of acknowledgement toward him.
"Nightmare, I know you're not asleep." He poked his cheek, Nightmare slowly opened his eyes just to glare at Shattered before ignoring him again. Shattered scoffed,
"Are you ignoring me!?" He huffed with a pout. How much time had passed since Nightmare first arrived here?
"Nightmare! Pay attention to me!" Shattered whined before smacking him across his face. Nightmare yelped and flinched, at the warm sting in his cheek. He did his best to hold his tongue and look in the opposite direction of Shattered. Not willing to give Shattered the satisfaction of another glare from him.

"Eat!" Shattered yelled at him, gripping the collar of Nightmare's shirt and pulling on it to force him into a sitting position, simply to force Nightmare into facing Shattered.
Nightmare didn't say a word or react as Shattered held him up and stared at him with a vicious glare.
"Fine." Shattered pushed Nightmare back against the rocky ground before stepping away and letting out a deep sigh. He took the plate back, resisting the urge to pummel it, before walking back to Hate who watched the whole thing.

"He's starting to give up..." Shattered hummed to Hate, "See what you can do to get him screaming again."
   "I've got a few ideas~" Hate smirked.
"I'll leave you to it." Shattered was glad that he could count on Hate for small favours like this. He smiled to Hate before leaving, likely going to check on his baby carrier.

Hate grinned to himself as he walked up to Nightmare laying on the ground. Nightmare tried his best not to react to him as he got closer, though he did get increasingly more nervous at the anticipation of whatever Hate had planned for him.
Hate lightly kicked him in the side. More to get Nightmare's attention than to actually hurt him.
"You're a terrible actor." Hate told him simply. This wasn't the approach Nightmare was expecting from Hate.

"Do you really think that Shattered is gonna fall for this pathetic attempt at 'being broken'?" Hate crouched down next to him. "Unless you actually think that's the truth..." He scoffed. "Like it or not, you're not so hard to read. Even I know your stubborn ass well enough to know that you won't break until everyone you care about is dead."
Nightmare glared at him.

"See, there's that fire. That look is exactly what gives you away. You're not done yet." Hate smirked at him as he watched Nightmare's face change, "You're so good at showing your anger and hate in a single look~" He held Nightmare's chin in place so he couldn't look away from him. "Killer, Dust, and Horror. They're fine~ Shattered and I haven't touched them since you last saw them. At least to my knowledge~" His smirk widened as he watched Nightmare try so hard not to react, but Nightmare's eye twitching kept giving him away everytime Hate sounded like he might potentially be threatening Nightmare's team.

"As for your boyfriend, he's just over your horizon. Shattered won't let me in the house, but I'm sure he's fine... Tell you what..." Hate leaned into Nightmare, "I'm not supposed to tell you this, but Cross should be giving birth in a month. You've got one month until you're home free. So you can't give up now." Hate whispered to him.

"I don't care." Nightmare growled. He couldn't not react to that one.
   Hate hummed in accomplishment,
"Ya you do." Hate thought of himself as so clever, "Well, let's see if that little shot of hope gets you screaming to Shattered's liking~" He let go of Nightmare's chin and stood up.
"Fuck you," Nightmare didn't appreciate being manipulated by a nitwit like Hate who usually doesn't have half the brain power to play mind games.

"My thoughts exactly~" Hate grinned down at Nightmare.
