Chapter 1 part 2: the dinner table

I walked downstairs and sat down at the table.
"What's for dinner, mama?" i asked pulling back my chair and sitting down
"Your dad's special dish-" my mom said, setting the table up
Some backstory- i was born in a Mexican family. My mother's name is Yolanda Sabine, while my father is Antonio Delgado. August 19th, 2001, my brother, Andrew Delgado was born. 3 years later, on May 17th, I was born! My father was drafted for a war 1 year after I was born, so he wasn't there for my childhood.. my mom started having many affairs with men older and younger than her. one day, a 16 year old accidentally got her pregnant during their affair and he ran away, now leaving my mother with my younger sister, Cecilia Sabine.
"Again, ma?" my brother said annoyed
"Don't be ungrateful, Andrew. At least we have food on the table now." My mom responded angrily
They started arguing with eachother.
"Can you two stop arguing? You two argue every time." I cut both of them off, and they looked at me
"She's right m-" my brother started speaking but got cut off
"She won't tell me what to do! She wants to be a musician- she isn't becoming an engineer like her father!!" My mom argued to my brother
"Mom you can't stop her from chasing her dreams." My brother said in a monotone voice
"I don't care!! She will go to engineering school! I've already sent an application and she's gotten accepted!" My mom said, slamming her hand on the table.

I was shocked. I got up from my chair and went back to my room, shutting the door behind me.
