Ever wonder what it's like being a law student, not only a law student but a CRIMINAL law student? It is the most stressful and competitive thing you will get experience, worse then Highschool, worse then valedictorian, and worse then football or any type of sport.I care about my grades a ton, not because I'm a goal setter or whatever, but because I like the academic validation. It's unfortunately the only thing I'm thriving off of, that and my bookshelf. I'm neck and neck with up tight perfect girl Chrissy McStevens she has the type of looks to make a guy stop in his tracks, and the brains for it too. She has beautiful black hair that's silky and straight, emerald green eyes and heart shaped lips. If it wasn't for her being the biggest bitch on the planet, I'd maybe even consider befriending her.
I know what your thinking, "just because your academic rivals doesn't make her a bitch, she's probably just like you- blah blah blah" No. Chrissy is a trust fund preppy, who's only personality trait is the fact she thinks she's better then everyone. The other day she told Georgia Jackson she had a big mouth and won't get anywhere with an art major. Wrong. Georgia is an AMAZING artist and knows everything from brush strokes all the way to what brand of canvas is best.
Georgias my best friend and has been since second grade. We grew up in Vancouver together and decided we both wanted to stay together throughout our Uni years. Now, I know I called Chrissy a trust fund which is true, but I didn't do bad myself I may be a Vancouver girl, but my family is not Singapore rich. Not like Chrissy.
As I mentioned before I am neck and neck with Chrissy at the moment for highest grade. My professor Ms. Adelaide has a rough way of teaching her lectures, all marks and achievements are posted on the board, on display, for everyone in the entire campus to see. Me and Chrissy have been butting heads for first place since the beginning of the year she may be a year older, but I'm tougher.
I come from a 'strict' background one may say. My parents are both straight A students and majored in sciences. My dad is now the head man at a pharmaceutical company, and my mom is a project manager for a environmental institution. Moral of the story is I was raised with high expectations. I'm first born of 3. I'm the first child, my brother Carson is second born, and then there's baby sister Tully. I'm the leader of the pack. I helped a lot with my siblings before University, whether it was driving them to school or packing their lunches it was big sis Via who helped them through their middle school years and got them started for Highschool.
Im 2 years older then Carson and 3 years older then Tully. Carson is in 11th grade right now and Tully has just started 10th. They're both my pride and joy and I would do just about anything for them. Thinking back on my childhood it wasn't as bad as I thought, I had a good home, good family, and an amazing best friend to get me through all my troubles and worries.
Im fairly independent because of my parents and I thank them for it, I can do my own thing without needing help, but of course I'm willing to spare some of my time to help other people. If Chrissy asked me to help her study for an English exam I would help her. Georgia says my toxic trait is I'm to kind to people, even the ones I hate or dislike.
I'm storming down the hallway to see the result for our last exam, I'm betting I scored between 89%-94% I studied hard and I knew almost ever answer on the exam. It took about 3 hours to complete. No one ever gets 100% in Professor Adelaide's class, doesn't matter how much you study, or memorize or cheat. She always has a curve ball. Rumor has it 3 years ago the last question on one of her exams was a mathematical equation, you really can do anything with a tenure.
I make it to the board in time before our crowded hallways get more crowded from dismissal. I scan the board and at the top is Chrissy and mines name. Side by side. Both standing at a 95%, higher then I guessed but not enough to beat that annoying perfect preppy Chrissy.
I roll my eyes on annoyance, but other then my academic rivalry I'm very proud of my mark on my exam. I hear doors opening and footsteps begin flooding the once less crowded hallway. I remove my self from where my feet were planted and turn on my heels before strolling down the hallway. My English class was canceled today for whatever reason so I've decided on going to the coffee shop just off campus to read.
I value a lot of my personal time, whether that's taking a moment to read some romance novel or having a full spa day with myself; I really value my time alone. Yes I love being around Georgia and our amazing friend group but still, everyone needs some me time.
I push through the busy hallways before finally making it out the door, I plug in my ear plugs and turn on my playlist; Taylor swifts, paper rings starts playing in my ears. I love music. It bring me so much peace, this song particularly because it reminds me so much of a book trope. Frien-enemies to lovers.
As I'm walking through campus I spot my absolute worse nightmare. The football team running 100 miles an hour down the side walk. What are they running for?
Why are they running?Oh my god.
Before I know it I've stumbled backwards onto my ass getting my jeans dirty in the muddy grass. It's fall at the moment. Im wearing jeans and a thrifted sweater, along with my blue converse. Blues my favourite colour not baby blue or royal blue, but deep navy blue. It reminds me of home when I would look up in the busy city and the sky wasn't completely black."You alright?" Great.
Jack Jones Hudson. The quarterback for our schools football team, and the biggest douche on the planet. He's only nice to people when he wants something or needs a "favor", these favours consist of buying him weed, alcohol, or trying to slide in with some chick. He's an ass. He's cheated on so many girls, including Chrissy. He puts his hand out for me to grab, I can only roll my eyes before my conscience could grab it. I'll admit he's hot, but totally not my type I don't date dickwads.
"I'm fine" I saw with a sarcastic smile.
I push myself Off the ground before embarrassing myself further."You dropped this" he says holding out my book, no. No. No. It's wet.
I groan in annoyance.
"Sorry about that" he says rubbing the back of his neck with his hand.
"Whatever" I retort brushing myself off
"Hey what's your name?" Hudson asks
Oh please kill me now before I actually have a conversation with this bozo
"Via." I state
"Via what" he continues
"Via Greyson" I huff
"Cool I'm-"
"I know who you are JJ" I finish for him
"Oh okay, cool. Football fan?!" He chuckled. So help me-
"No." I hate people.
He nods in response.
"We'll see you around Via" he smiles as he walks away. He's hot, to bad his persona is unattractive.I make way off campus and into the coffee shop, I like this place because it's the worfcet place for people who are obsessed with books. It's like mini library but only with the most popular books. There's Shakespeare, romance, mystery/thriller, fantasy and a bunch of other cool stuff.
I love bookshelves, because the shelves are holding whole stories, with whole characters and the characters lives, how they interact, what they look like, who they are. It's like the concept of the universe we are one planet of thousands.
Book characters are the same. The characters think they are alone in their own universe, their own world. In reality they are one of hundreds of stories people pick up to read.I place my order, sit down and open my semi dry book, thankfully it's hard cover so the inside isn't to bad. I'm reading the song of achilles, and let's just say it is probably one of the best romance books I've read in a while.
My phone buzzes in my pocket And my music comes to stop. I open my phone to find a message on Instagram, JJ Hudson has requested to follow you. fantastic. Just when I thought he was going to forget about me after we had our little encounter.
I approve to follow, crass, only because I'm interested in seeing what he wants. JJ sent a message. I open the message; "sup via, you dropped your student ID out of your bag. Just wanted to let you know I have it I can bring it to you tomorrow."
God, I was really hoping I wouldn't need to have another encounter with him. just my luck. If I had just taken my time getting through the hallway, none of this would have happened I wouldn't have fallen on my ass and ruin my jeans, I wouldn't have dropped my book and gotten it wet, and I definitely wouldn't have met the quarterback of our University football team the infamous, JJ Hudson, I also would not be getting a DM from him on Instagram.
What a fucking day.
