My eyes finally open. I look at the soft white paint of the wall when it hits me: I don't know where I am. I sit up with a rush, immediately regretting it as my head starts to pound. The drugs are starting to wear off, but it's still hard for me to keep my eyes open. I hesitate to call out in unfamiliar territory, finally deciding against it. I've been a prisoner twice now, and it is not happening for a third time. I pull the covers back and slowly stand before noticing the note on the nightstand. It's from Ian.
'I'll be back soon. Wait for me.'
I crumble the note in my hand and toss it to the side. There's no way I'm waiting on him. It's time for me to go, time for me to get away from the vampires and their politics, and it's damn sure time for me to leave before some crazy vampire decides to harvest my eggs, or worse, impregnate me.
I take a brief look around before walking outside. I see nothing but trees. I'm in the middle of nowhere, and I'm on my own. I touch Roselyn's ring and feel her strength sweep through me before I take my first step. Ian has hidden me away well, but now is not the time to hide... I can feel the numbness start in the tips of my fingers. I'm not safe. I need to go.
