5) Japeth & Rhian - Brother

This is a format that I first saw in the book of SpideysTomcat where you try to put every lyric of a song into the chapter

I really liked how this turned out and I definitely will do this again!

The song that I chose for this is 'Brother' by Kodaline
You should go and listen to the song, it's amazing!

And now on with the chapter, have fun ^^

Japeth rose from the ground, facing his brother: "When we were young we were the ones, the kings and mother the queen." he spoke.
"Oh yeah!" Rhian remembered.
"We thought we could rule the world." he chuckled.

"We smoked cigarettes." he pointed out but Japeth replied: "Man no regrets."
"I wish I could relive every single word." his brother answered after a short while of silence.

"We've taken different paths and travelled different roads." Japeth said with a sad smile.
"I know we'll always end up on the same one when we're old." Rhian replied confidently.

"And when you're in the trenches and if you're under fire I will always cover you!" he explained and laid his arms around his brother before saying:

"If I was dying on my knees
You would be the one to rescue me.
And if you were drowned at sea
I'd give you my lungs so you could breathe."

Japeth was too stunned to speak.
He simply didn't expect a confession such as this.
"Always remember..." Rhian started.

"I've got you brother!" he said and took him into a tight hug showing him how strong their bond really was.
Japeth just stood there, not moving a bit because he wasn't able to progress the words he was hearing.

Was it the truth?
Or just another trick to get him to do something for him?
Rhian noticed his brother's doubts and continued to talk:

"Oh brother, we'll go deeper than the ink beneath the skin of our tattoos." he said and pointed to Japeth's neck, where he had a big black tattoo of a snake.

"You know we share the same blood! You're my brother and I love you." he tried getting his brother out of his trance. Getting him to say something, anything.

"That's the truth." he whispered, laying his forehead against his brother's.
"We're living different lives." Japeth said without any emotion.

"Heaven only knows if we'll make it back with all our fingers and our toes." he explained.
Rhian opened his eyes in surprise, happy that his brother was believing him.

He stepped backwards, facing his brother again.
"Five years? Twenty years?" Rhian asked unsteady.
"Come back, it will always be the same." he replied certain.

"If I was dying on my knees you would be the one to rescue me." his brother repeated, waiting for the other to join in. And after a moment of hesitation, he did.

"And if you were drowned at sea
I'd give you my lungs so you could breathe." he said silently, his voice switching from confidential to unsure.

Rhian noticed his brother's hesitation, so he replied: "I've got you brother." he said in a strong voice.

"And if we hit on troubled water
I'll be the one to keep you warm and safe." he said with such enthusiasm that his brother couldn't do different than joining in.

"And we'll be carrying each other? Japeth asked with a smile.
"Until we say goodbye on our dying day." he explained confidently, knowing exactly the way he wants to go.

"Because I've got you brother." he whispered and laid his hands on his brother's shoulders, waiting for a response.

"If I was dying on my knees you would be the one to rescue me." he said and saw the big smile on Rhian's lips.
"And if-" he started but got interrupted by Japeth.

"And if you were drowned at sea
I'd give you my lungs so you could breathe." he said pulling his brother into a tight hug.
He closed his eyes as he felt hot tears running down his cheeks.

Tears of joy.

Because he might have lost his loving mother, but he still has his brother at his side.
"I've got you brother." Japeth said confidential as well.

Their bond, stronger than ever and never going to break.
Nothing will ever get in between the love of these two brothers.

Or so they believed.

Until....
