I woke up to the smell of coffee. I tiredly opened my eyes, some sort of clothing was covered over me. I sat up, it was Egon's lab coat. , I looked around and realized I was in the lab. Just then I heard a hum. "You're finally awake." Egon spoke. I looked back to see him standing behind the couch. He smiled slightly.
"Slept well? Heard you slightly snoring." He chuckled. He walked over to his desk and grabbed my glasses and handed them to me. I put them on and smiled. "Thanks. Now you don't look all blurry." I yawned. He chuckled and walked back to his desk and I followed. He sat down and looked up at me. "Wanna take a look? Peter got slimed again earlier today so I wanted a sample" He asked. "Uh.." I blushed. "Just sit in my lap, I don't mind." His cheeks turned slightly pink. "Uhh.. o-okay." I sat down and looked through the ocular lens.

"Woah." He hummed in amusement. I stopped looking and leaned back into his chest. "That's cool spengs. You know science always interested me but I just wasn't smart enough to understand it." I shrugged. "It just takes you longer to grasp things. That doesn't mean you're not smart." He put his arms around my waist and rested his head on my shoulder.

"So. What did you- did you find anything interesting about the slime?" I ask.
He pulls away and looks back in his microscope, he answers in his usual emotionless tone.
"Nothing out of the ordinary. Its seems to be a protein based protoplasmic entity, with no discernable origin." He says. I look at him confused. He pulls away and looks at me.
" Well, a protoplasm is a living cell that isn't really, uh, a full-blown organism. This slime is alive, but without a cellular structure. That's, uh, rare."
"Oh" I reply. Egon pauses for a few seconds, seeming like he wants to say more but can't quite think of how to put it.

Finally, he speaks again.
"Basically, it's something that we don't really know how it came to be, or why something like that would exist. It's definitely... odd."
I look at him. "so. Uhh.. do you think there's other types of slime?"
Egon thinks about the possibility for a second, before responding.
"Possibly. Slime molds are known to produce many varieties of spore-bearing structures which are very diverse in form and function. This particular type may have evolved for a very specific purpose. The question then becomes, what is that purpose?"
I shrug. "Are you asking me that or.."
Egon looks at me and smiles. "No, that was a rhetorical question. I meant we can't know what purpose it might have been created for. We'd need to collect another sample, and observe how it behaves in different environments. Then we could make an educated guess." I nod. Trying to follow a long to what he's saying. "Oh." I say. He chuckles slightly and runs his fingers through my hair. "Wanna go out after work? " He asks. I blush and look at him. "L-like a date?" He smiles and nods. "yeah. We could go out. Get some food then head up to the roof. I know how much you love stargazing." I blush. "Um.. I-" "hey. I'll order the food. You get the stuff ready. How about that? Meet at 8." He says. I smile slightly. "Yeah ok. Sure." I say.
