"What are you doing here?" I whisper harshly.

My dad decided to pay us a visit? I wonder what he needed this time. I'm not going to get affected by his visit. I mustn't. I have tried so hard to let go of him and the painful memories.

"I'm here to see you." He comes forward extending out his arms.

I quickly jump away. "S-sorry." I don't know why I did that. Maybe because I'm not used to his 'fatherly love'.

He gives me a sad look but I ignore it. "Where is your mom?" He finally asks.

"She's up-"

"What is going on here?" My mom says sternly from behind me. She clearly wasn't happy that my dad is here too.

"I came to talk to you." He replies.

"There is nothing to talk about." She fired back.

I creep away and go upstairs. I open my bedroom and lay on my bed. I can't believe he's here. He rarely comes. My mom and him are going to end up in another fight. Ya Allah!

After a couple of minutes they became surprisingly silent. And that scared me. It usually meant that they had agreed on something. And they usually never agree.

I slowly and carefully walk downstairs. Trying my best not to make a sound when I hear the word 'marriage'. I tumble down and end on the floor.

My mother and father stand up and look at me. They had horrified expressions.

I decided to get up and confront them.

"Who? Huh? who is getting married?!" My heart pounds loudly against my chest. It better not be me. My mom knows I'm not ready right now.

My mom should know.

My mom should have defended me.

My mom should have never agreed.

My mom looks at me with pitiful eyes. "You. Now be-"

My heart shatters and tears immediately form. I run up to my room and slip on the abaya and a scarf. I snatch my small purse and run out the door.

"Amina!!" My mom screamed after me but my legs wouldn't stop just like my heartbeat.

I kept running until I reached another safe place I can confide in. After two blocks I find the house I am looking for.

Out of breath I rang the doorbell. The door opened up and I came to face with Hana. She was my best friend. Her husband is also a good friend of mine. We are childhood friends. It's amazing that they got married. After Hana kept telling me how she loved Walid I had to do something. Let's say that a few months later they were married.

"Amina!?" She jumped at me and gave me a hug. She noticed how I didn't get excited and pulled from the hug to look at me. Her face suddenly fell as she noticed my red swollen eyes. "Amina? What happened?"

"Can I stay over for a couple of nights?" I whisper. I am ashamed that I have to do this but I have no idea where to go.

"Yeah sure! You shouldn't even ask! But first tell me everything." She then gave me another hug and led me in.

"Thank you. And I will." I reply.

She leads me into their guest room and let's me set my bag.

She sits next to me and sighs. "What happened Amina? You don't ever come here until it's serious."

I do feel embarrassed but I have no other place but here. I'm afraid that if I explain to Hana what's wrong she will go overboard and go tell my father something.

"Promise you won't let anyone know?"

"What kind of dumb question is that?! Of course!!" She looks at me unbelievingly.

"Well, my dad and mom" I started to say and the tears followed, "have decided to get me married."

Hana gasps and puts her hands over her mouth in shock. "You, you can't be"

"It's true! What am I to do Hana!! I don't even know the guy!"

"Why? I thought you mom knew?" She looked pained to find out about this incident as I was.

"I thought she knew too." I threw myself on the bed and began sobbing on the pillow. Hana comes over and gently rubs my back.

"What are you going to do Amina? This breaks my heart but I seem out of ideas."

I sat up and threw the pillow across the room. "Nothing I might as well marry the ass! I wanted to love someone and then get married! I wanted to wait! Why in the world are they making me marry him? How long can I keep running."

"Amina habibti calm down. Maybe your mom is doing this for the best."

"You think so? But why?" I sniffled grossly and Hana started laughing.

I lightly punch her arm. "Shut up."

"Here I will get you a glass of water." She gets up and I follow her.

"Hana!! Do you know where you put my shirt?!" I heard Walid yell from upstairs.

I cringe. "Is he always this loud?"

"Ohhh yeah."

Then I hear footsteps thumping down the steps. Great he's coming.

"Hana I kept asking you wh-" He began but as soon as I turned around he shrieked.

I shrieked as well and covered my eyes. "Walid!!! Why in the world are you here without a shirt."

"Oh crap." He swore. As soon as I heard him going back up the stairs I started laughing. Hana joined in.

"He's such a dork." I laugh.

"Yup." She replies laughing as well.
