"I'm sorry Mr. Duldulao, but they aren't letting her have visitors yet."

"Still?"

"Yeah." The lady looked at me with sad eyes. "I'm sorry, sweetie."

"Alright, I'll just..."

"Go ahead and wait in the lobby. I'm sure the warden has some free time today. I'll let you know."

"Thank you."

"No problem, sweetie." I went and sat at one of the tables in the lobby and took out my homework. I started bringing it after my third time doing this.
Basically what I did, was come up to the correctional facility where my mom was, see if they're letting her have visitors, and if not, wait in the lobby until the warden has a break in his schedule. Usually he doesn't and when he does, someone calls him away. He was a really nice guy but he was very busy.

I hated the fact that I even had to go through this and I only did because of something that didn't even happen. When I was 11 my mother got arrested. They took her while we were eating breakfast. I didn't know why they had taken her but my father didn't even fight or argue. I found out she was going to trial and was still confused about what had happened. My father however, still wasn't in shock or upset.

At her trial, I found out that they had charged her with child endangerment, neglect, and sexual abuse. I was in shock because that was so far from who she was. If anything, that was my father minus the sexual abuse. They didn't care though, even when I testified on her behalf. She was sentenced to 30 years to life with a chance of parole after 15. I was heartbroken.

In the beginning, I was able to call her and talk to her but then my father got sick of me calling her all the time. Next thing I knew, she wasn't allowed to get phone calls then she wasn't allowed to get visitors. I've only been able to send her one letter and that's when I came out to her. She sent me back a letter saying that she loves me and that she'd always be supportive of me. I really wanted to tell her about my boyfriend because I know she'd be happy for me. Plus, I just really missed my mom.

I finished my calculus work and moved onto my essay for my creative writing class. I don't know why I let Janet talk me into taking it. 'It's really fun, Gil. I promise.' Fun my ass. I barely got through that last one, now I have to do another one. Jesus Christ. I'm going to beat her up.

For about three hours, I sat in the same spot working on my homework and waiting for the lady to tell me if there's an opening. I only got up to use the bathroom and even then, I told the lady I was going. I watched people go in and out with smiles and frowns after visiting their relatives. I wonder what could've been said.

I looked at the clock and saw that there was only about two hours left. My hope was slowly going out but I still held out. One of these days, I will get to see my mom and I don't care what she looks like, as long as she's as happy to see me as I am to see her.

After finishing my work, I rested my head against the wall. I definitely started getting tired but I don't want to miss my chances. I couldn't run the risk of falling asleep and missing her telling me if he's free to talk.
I fought and fought but my eyes began to get heavy.
Closing my eyes, for what felt like a second, I felt a wave of calmness before freaking out. My eyes shot open as I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked around before my eyes landed on the front desk lady. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."

"It's okay. Is time up?"

"Yeah. Sorry, sweetie. The congressman pulled him away." I let out a sigh.

"Alrighty. Same time next week?"

"See you there. I'm making my famous cookies. I'll save you some."

"Thanks."

"And bring me those appetizers from your job. You know I love those."
