Emmett hummed to the song that played in his white hued headphones, they stood at the bus stop of his neighborhood. The street lamps tinted the sidewalks orange, the sky was still pitch black and they felt odd. Emmett glanced behind his neighbors house, an odd impression ceased over them.

A large and completely black figure peeked its head from around the house. Emmett's eyes grew wide and they shuddered looking away in an instant.
He felt eager for the bus too come, they sighed squeezing his eyes tightly shut. They fell backwards, into the grass. He gasped as a large vehicle pulled up beside the sidewalk.

They sighed realizing it was only the bus, he heaved them self to a stand. He swayed a bit with dizziness, but brushed it off as the bus doors opened. They stepped up the small and cramped public bus stairs as he sighed, their music blared in his headphones.

They skimmed down the aisle of the bus feeling claustrophobic. He glanced at the adolescents that sat in the seats, seeing them all differently. They sighed looking back to the end of the bus, he finally reached the back sliding into the seat next to Zyan.

"Hey Emmett! How's the new headphone's holding up?" Zyan chirped, "Wonderful actually! Thank you again for these. They are definitely worth it."  Emmett replied.

Zyan was Emmett's best friend since the seventh grade, they'd done nearly everything together by now.

Emmett sighed, he leaned their head on Zyan's shoulder. This was the only person he was comfortable with all the time, Emmett knew they had schizophrenia although for some reason they never hallucinated that Zyan was someone else or something else.

Zyan was special, very special. Zyan laced their fingers inbetween Emmett's, and Emmett dozed off.

Zyan secretly had immense feelings for Emmett. Not only did they see Emmett as a best friend they saw him as even more. Zyan slipped their hands down their pocket, then slipping out their phone. In a swift motion they unlocked their phone scrolling through social media.

"Emmett, we're at school now. Wake up." Zyan mumbled into my ear, I smiled feeling a warmth in my stomach. "Mmm.. okay." I murmured back. I blinked away sleep from my eyes and looked at Zyan.

For a second I felt like I could kiss them, I wish if I'm honest. I've felt such a strong way about them forever now.

"Okay love birds." Ellis chimes in, I shrugged glancing at Ellis and then back at Zyan.

The bus engine whirred to a hault, the bus doors slid open to reveal the front of our high school. I staggered to my feet, Zyan and Ellis close behind. We skimmed down the bus aisle, stepping down the
slim bus stairs. One step, two step, three steps. I count my feet planting on the black, worn asphalt.

I sighed, Zyan began to walk close beside me our hands placed together like a woven stitch.

We reached the doors, Ellis opened the door and Zyan grabbed it holding it for me. "Thank you." I repeat a smile swept across my face. I entered the building and Zyan followed. The hall was tightly packed with countless colognes and perfumes. Teenagers at their lockers and grabbing books and such, small conversation here and there.

Zyan hummed, "See you at lunch!" They grinned. I continued on, soon hearing the sounding of Quinn's loud protests to Leon. I chuckled to myself.

"EMMMMM-" Quinn shouted breaking off as Leon patted her shoulder. "Leon." Her voice rang cold.

"I'm going to disown you." She continued replying to her previous word. Leon had a fake sad expression on his face. I chuckled, "You guys are odd." I chimed in, I continued walking, the pair walked beside me. "Offense very much taken." Leon muttered in a sarcastic tone.
