BROOKLYN, NEW YORK!
JANUARY 1993.

Snow blanketed the ground, crunching with every step Harper took as she walked towards the corner store near her apartment. Classes were canceled once again due to the snow and Harper couldn't be more relieved. She didn't feel like attending class. She had been up late the night prior working on her script for the short film she was writing and needed the extra sleep and extra time to herself to work on it. Between work and school she rarely had enough time to even think about her script.

As she walked into the store, Harper was met by a cat meowing for a little love. She bent down, scratched his head with a content smile and then was off to find what she was looking for. She grabbed a package of cookies, chips and a soda for later on before walking up to the counter.

"Cup of coffee, black with sugar and a pack of Marlboro light one hundreds." She says, pulling out her wallet. The man stuffed her things into a paper bag and exchanged the bag for a ten dollar bill. "Thanks." She smiled and pocketed the change. As she went to the door, she bent down to pet the orange tabby one more and then walked out.

"Hey! Harper!" A soft voice called out as she walked onto the sidewalk. Harper looked over her shoulder and was met with the familiar face of her friend Spike.

"Spike! Whatcha doing in town? I thought you left!" She smiled as he caught up with her. Spike was a guy Harper had met last summer around the way at the skate parks. He was filming some things for one of his skate videos and she was there observing for her short film. They were both into directing and hit it off instantly.

"Just stopping by before I go see my mom in Maryland. I was hoping I'd run into you, how is your script?" He asked.

Harper shrugged and folded her arms for warmth. "It's going fine. I rarely get to work on it with school and all." She explained.

"Right," he said with a slight frown.

"I hear your onto music videos now, how's that?" Harper asks.

Spikes lips curved into a smile. "It's great! it's really fucking fun, but I still love doing skate videos, you know?"

Harper chuckled and nodded. "Of course, it's what you're best at." She smiled.

"Look, I'll let you go since it's cold as hell, but call me as soon as you have your script together and you're ready to start filming. I'd love to help with anything, I know a few actors that need the experience too."
