I gave up rushing to class, I'm obviously going to be late now. I was pretty lucky though; it wasn't my lens I heard crack, it was just the tripod mount that broke. So as long as I don't want to stand it on a tripod, my camera actually still works just fine.

I arrive at my photography class with just 15 minutes left, and quietly slip into the back.

Packing away, I thought my lateness had gone unnoticed until my teacher stops me before I leave.

"Scarlett, can I have a word please?"

"Ermm... yess" I don't really know what to expect.

"Scarlett, I'm not going to beat around the bush here" oh great "your grades are slipping and you never seem focussed on my classes. Now you're turning up late, I feel like I need to ask if you actually want this A level?"

Wow, she wasn't holding back. "I'm sorry, I really do want it! I've just bought this new camera that you recommended" I try to reassure her.

"There isn't long left until your final piece, I want you to make sure you are focussed Scarlett"

"I will, I promise!" I force a smile and she returns the same, stepping aside signalling that I can leave now.

How did I end up here. Like I know it's not a big deal that I was late but, I'm just letting these idiots ruin everything for me! I need to stand up for myself.

As if on cue, two of the girls from earlier walk right up to me.

"How's your camera?" One of them asks, faking a sincere expression, while the other giggles behind her.

It was different this time; I was all riled up. I couldn't even control it, I just saw red!

"What is your fucking problem!" I shout loud enough to grab the attention of all the people in the corridor, but I don't even care.

"Excuse me!" She almost squeals, stepping into my face.

I feel my fist clench by my sides as I step right into her. She shoved me back and before I can even think, my fist swings up and connects with the left side of her face.
She gasps as her friend lunges in between us and grabs my hair, swinging me around. I quickly swing my foot under her ankle, tripping her but with her grip still on my hair we both hit the floor.

I scramble back to my feet, still full of anger but two teachers quickly break up the fight.

"In there now!" One of the teachers points to the nearest classroom and we all huff, following him inside.

Before I have a chance to speak, the two girls start crying and another two of their group walk into the room.

"Sir, she just went insane and started attacking them" one of the new arrivals spat out.

"WHAT! No I didn't" I argue but I'm shushed by the teacher.

"Detention" he says looking just at me.

What kind of sixth form still has detention, I thought that was just for school! I say nothing I just pick up my belongings and leave angrily.

—————————————————————

I still cannot believe I'm walking into a detention at 17 years old. Ridiculous!

It's a big lecture hall but there's no one else here so I walk up into the back corner and sit down.

After a little while a teacher came in and explained that I have to stay until the end of the hour and then I can go. After he left, I decided to take out my maths work and get it done while I have some quiet time.

15 minutes in, a guy in an oversized varsity style jacket with a hoodie underneath came in and headed to where I was sitting. He looked surprised to see me, then he smirked.

"Are you doing maths?" He furrows his eyebrows, nodding down to my maths papers.

"No, art" I state sarcastically.

"Clearly" he smiles "I'm Ty"

"Hi Ty" I smiled and blew some air out of my nose when I realised that rhymed.

"So, do you have a name?" He questions, leaning on my desk.

I feel a little flustered when he leans closer. What is wrong with me?

"Everyone has a name" I offer, picking up my pen to continue.

"Well, what's yours?" He pushes, taking my pen and placing it behind his ear.

"Scarlett" I answer

"What did you do to get into detention Scarlett?"

"I got into a fight"

"Oh you're a fighter?" He smiles, raising his eyebrows.

"Yes, one of my A levels is kick boxing, MMA. I'm a professional you see" I maintain a serious expression and he just grins.

"Want to get out of here?" He stands up and picks up my bag with him.

"I have to stay for another 45 minutes" I roll my eyes.

"I'm here every week and the teacher doesn't come back, it's not like school" he assures me, but I'm still a little sceptical.

"And go where?" I ask, closing my maths paper.

"Just follow me" he says, handing me my bag and my pen from behind his ear.

I get a little giddy as I follow behind him. He's one of those pretty boys. He's not muscly or mysterious. He is tall, with long enough hair to be almost in his eyes. His eyes sparkle when he stretches out his cheeky smile. His cheekbones and jaw are so prominent and his skin is smooth.

We walk up some stairs and through a door that leads out onto part of the sixth form room. I realise now I'm following a stranger onto a roof with no other people around but apparently that doesn't bother me.

He sits down on some boxes by the wall and I sit beside him.

"Good view isn't it?" He asks, with that god damn smirk again. It makes my stomach flutter and I don't know why.

"I guess" I shrug, trying to avoid looking into his gorgeous blue eyes.
He should be a model, maybe he is.

"You said you are in detention a lot?" I remember his words from before.

"Well, I realised that they don't record detention at sixth form, they really don't care. I like the quiet of that room sometimes.

"Have you heard of the library?" I ask a little sarcastically.

"No, what's that?" He returns, smirking again and I roll my eyes.

We sit in silence for a while, both just looking out over the grounds. I like it up here. We've been up here for about half an hour, when he stands up.

"It was nice to meet you Scarlett" he smiles "hopefully we can do this again" he says walking back out of the door.

Do what? We literally did nothing. Wait, I didn't even say goodbye.
