" Would you like some more Champagne, Mr Payne?"

The blond airhostess, whispered through the loud buzz of the plane. She bent towards Liam with a heavy bottle.

Liam had barely noticed her or how pretty she was. His mind was elsewhere.

Alcohol did sound like a brilliant idea, considering he was about to plunge in to the deep- end, head first.

"Yeah, and leave the bottle here would you love?"

Liam emptied the glass absentmindedly in to his mouth. He held on to a pastel coloured invitation card in his sweaty palms. He traced his fingers on the engraved letters.

"Zayn Javadd Malik and Perrie Edwards

Request the company of Liam James Payne

At their marriage ceremony"

He read this several times over.

"What have you got us in to Zayn?" he said to himself.

How bizarre all this feels. Is this really happening?

He had once wished that this wedding would stay a myth. But it was about to start in three hours in a château in Southern France. Liam was clutching at straws but if he could just speak to him, just maybe Zayn would see things clearer. And if he was really lucky they could start to build a future together.

Liam leaned against the glass pane and watched the green landmass that was France reveal itself through clouds as the plane descended. His suit was pale blue with a boutonnière on his lapel with tiny white roses.

He looked dashing like he had walked out of a G.Q. magazine but looked uncomfortable in his seat. His collar was grinding against his neck and he felt like he was being stifled. He grabbed it and adjusted it harshly and Niall, his travel companion, noticed.

"Would you relax mate? There's nothing you can do about Zayn marrying. Be a good lad and let it go yeah?" Niall said from across the other side of the aisle.

"Like I didn't know already Niall. I am happy for them. Honest!"

"Huh?" Niall opened his blue eyes wide in disbelief. Only hours ago Liam was refusing to come.

"I believe ya!"

Liam just wished he had a side kick right now. But Niall wasn't his Robin. The Irish lad was dead against changing Zayn's mind about the marriage.

Picturing Zayn exchanging rings with Perry, made Liam's jaws grind. He deserved better. He couldn't stand around and watch him get hitched for the sake of a career or two.

Besides, ever since Zayn left the band, Liam's life had been in black and white. Smiling became hard work. This is because Zayn had always been his biggest source of pride and happiness even if he hated his decision to leave. All he wanted now was to get Zayn out of this fix and back in his arms.

He felt like a little boy who's been left completely alone in a sand pit. The boy had buckets and spades and lots of toys. But there was no one to play with. And the boy kept searching with a pout holding the sobs back. It was as if no matter what he tried, he could never be as bright and giddy as when Zayn was by his side.

Not even Sophia was able to reverse that.

If Zayn gets married today he was going to be done with him.

"Done!"

As they were rushed into the shiny black car waiting at the airport, the paps encircled them and started snapping and flashing away. Most were wearing tuxes for the occasion. Then it started sinking in. Just like Hello magazine predicted, this was going to be the wedding of the year.

It made Liam literally cringe.

The black jaguar steered towards a stone château with pointy purple turrets sticking out of the tree tops. Judging by the hustle and bustle outside the iron gates, and the large letters 'Z' and 'P' perched either side of it, they had arrived.

Liam scanned the wedding crowd in their suits and feathered hats. They were assembled and looking around expectantly, chatting and laughing. He spotted plenty of famous faces there including Kim Kardashian and Kanye. At least a hundred giant helium balloons in light shades of green and purple were hung along the gravel path. A trio of angelic looking long-haired flower girls giggled past with purple and white flower head bands.

" Liam, I saw Elton John sitting in front of a white grand piano!" Niall said, clearly starstruck.

Before the car could come to a halt, Liam dashed out.

"Running away are ya?"

Liam's right eye winked at Niall and he sped to the château like it was rush hour at St Pancreas tube, crunching the white gravel under his feet.

"Liam...Liam!"

He heard his name called in a posh British accent.

He didn't bother looking back. He needed to stay focused.

Where was Zayn?

He ran in checking his Rolex for the time. The wedding was supposed to have started five minutes ago. He spotted an open Gothic stone entrance and ran in to a massive foyer. Liam noticed two hulking bodyguards guarding a doorway upstairs. He went up the marble staircase knowing Zayn would be in there.

"I need to speak to the groom. Quick!"

Without waiting Liam started knocking on door.

"No entry. Sorry." the taller bodyguard said in a low voice.

"Dude I'm Liam. Zayn's best mate!"

Just then,by some stroke of Liams luck, the bodyguard's phone rang.

Liam ducked the bodyguard's giant hand and pushed and crept his way in through the door.

He could hear his pulse growing louder and ticking faster. He had been ignoring Zayn's texts for months. Even though he was invited he wasn't sure if he'll ask him to get lost. This made him nervous like before his G.C.S.E s.

It was a bright sunny room with an old fashioned four poster bed in the middle. The room smelt of Zayn's perfume. His eyes traveled to a large mirror with a heavenly yet familiar face reflecting back.
