The Tale of Two Childhood Friends - Ruinene [Childhood Friends/Fairytale AU]

Chapter 1 - How It All Started

Once upon a time, in a village, there were two best friends who were neighbours, their names are Nene and Rui. They both planted a blue rose between their backyards, as a symbol of their friendship, and every morning they would water the rose so that it can grow healthily. Every winter, it's a tradition for Rui to come over to Nene's house, and her grandma would tell them stories.

Time passed by very fast, and the two kids are now teenagers. One winter, Rui knocked on Nene's door, Nene opened the door and saw Rui.

'Hey Nene, I'm here! I can't wait to hear what story your grandma will tell today!', said Rui.

'I can't wait too! Please come inside, it's very cold out there,' Nene replied.

Rui stepped inside as he took off his shoes. Today, Nene's grandma told them the story of the Snow Queen.

'Kids, today, I will tell you the story of The Snow Queen,' Nene's grandma started, 'Far, far away, in an ice castle, there lived a Snow Queen who lives alone. Although she is beautiful, she is cold-hearted woman, she can turn anyone into her slaves. She also has a magic mirror which allows her to see what is going on in every part of the world.'

'Grandma, do you think the Snow Queen can find us, or anyone in general?', Nene asked in fear.

'Oh Nene, do you really believe in those things?', Rui asked Nene back.

'Then what are your thoughts, Rui?', Nene asked him back.

'If she does find us, I would've thrown her in the fireplace so that she will melt and be the "Water Queen"! Hahaha!', As Rui laughed, Nene laughed along too.

But little did he know, the Snow Queen is actually real somewhere and she was watching them from her magic mirror.

'So you would throw me into the fireplace so that you can turn me into the "Water Queen"?', the Snow Queen then created some ice crystals and commanded them, 'Fly away my little ice crystals, and freeze his heart!'

Under the Snow Queen's commands, her ice crystals travelled far to reach where Nene and Rui lived.

Meanwhile back at Nene's house, Rui saw something flying around in the snow from the window.

'Oooh~ look Nene! There's something flying around in the sky!', exclaimed Rui.

'Huh? Really?', as Nene followed Rui to the window.

Rui opened the window for a closer look, when the ice crystals entered the house and stung his eyes, Rui thought it was just the strong wind, when one of the ice crystals stung his heart, he screamed in pain as he fell to the floor. Nene was panicking, 'Rui! Are you alright?!' Out of nowhere, Rui's behaviour suddenly changed, 'What do you mean?! I'm fine! Leave me alone!', as he shoved Nene aside and left the house while taking his shoes. Nene was surprised to see Rui like this because he was never rude to her like that before.

Rui's behaviour continued for the next three days, every day he would give cold, mean looks to Nene, she still can't understand what had gotten into him or what has caused his rude behaviour.

Three days later, one night, she heard something from the window. Out of curiosity, she looked outside and saw Rui walking torwards the Snow Queen's sleigh which appeared out of nowhere. As soon as she saw Rui aboarded the sleigh, she rushed out the door and tried to chase them down, but they vanished in thin air within seconds.

That is when Nene had an idea: She will save her friend from the Snow Queen.

The next morning, Nene told her grandma what happened last night and her plan. Her grandma replied, 'You are a brave girl, Nene, I'm sure that you will succeed. Also, take this mirror with you, it will be useful to you on the way.' So Nene started her journey to find the Snow Queen and save her dearest friend, Rui.
