This time he had been less of a coward. This time he had acted more like a normal person. This time he had done what he told you and he texted. Noritoshi knew that wasn't much - it was barely the minimum - but he was willing to take the small things. So, he texted, and you answered. And as if by a miracle - to him, that is - you'd kept in touch. And he would never dare to say it out loud, he didn't even want to admit to himself, but it made him feel happier, and less lonely.

Noritoshi still tried to keep his composure, mind you, not text too much, not seem too desperate. God, he hoped he didn't seem desperate, but every time you replied he'd have to fight back a smile - though, if he was alone he'd let it show. You were, by far and large, his favorite notification. It was not as if you talked every day, but it was something. And once again, he was willing to take the small things.

And just like this the days moved. Summer turning into autumn, autumn turning into winter. Noritoshi kept his contact with you and he enjoyed it. He cherished the messages, the pictures of random things and places, and the stories of your accomplishments. He truly worried whenever you'd say you got hurt and he truly cherished it when you told him you had been sent up to a semi-first grade sorcerer.

However, he still missed having you around.

So, you could imagine his surprise when he saw you in the halls of the Kyoto campus one afternoon.

Noritoshi froze like a deer in headlights the moment he saw you. The last text he'd gotten was a whole day before and you had made no mention of a trip to Kyoto. Why? He called out to you, your name coming out in a stutter that seemed to echo in the empty halls of the school - most students out on missions, except him, having just recently arrived from one.

"Noritoshi!"

You turned at the call of your name, finally noticing him. Turning and walking to him you smiled, and despite looking tired you seemed gorgeous as always.

"You didn't," Noritoshi hesitated, trying to recompose himself, "you never said you were coming to Kyoto..."

"It was," you sighed, the tiredness seeping through your voice, "a sudden endeavor. The Principal needed to take a trip to Kyoto for official business, but there was no Grade 1 free to accompany him," you shrugged and paused, dipping your head to the side. "Well, Gojo was free. But he refuses to travel with Gojo."

Noritoshi hummed in agreement, he didn't think he'd want to travel with Gojo either.

"So," he continued, a bit afraid his next question would be seen as pressing too much, "how long will you be staying?"

By now you had both begun wandering the mostly empty halls of the school, only the sound of the wind keeping you company.

"Well, the Principal said it should be just a couple of days, we stay the weekend and should leave by monday afternoon," you said, trying and failing to stifle a yawn.

"You look tired, do you want me t-"

"Don't worry, Nori," you cut Noritoshi off before he could finish his sentence. "I just didn't have a chance to rest much before the sudden trip. But I'm only here as a last case scenario support, more an official aid than anything. So this weekend will be more of a time off for me. Oh, yeah," you laughed a small laugh, that beautiful sound Noritoshi so missed, "they said I can have my old room for the weekend."

"Well," Noritoshi smiled wide, a rare occurrence for him, "I'll know where to find you then. But now, I think you need to eat so you can rest. Mind," he paused for a second, "getting dinner with me?"
