Full name: Astrid Matsen

Nationality: Astrid came from a small Scandinavian village

Birth: Mid-9th century

Astrid Matsen was born and raised in a small, very isolated Scandinavian village, living as an ordinary citizen in the village, but unlike other women who stayed to defend the village, she was part of the land raids for riches and supplies, which in the eyes of those who lived there and given the circumstances of the time, was the only way to survive.

In addition to being an isolated village full of peculiarities that made it much more hostile than the others, there was also an obscure religious ritual among the people, which only warriors like Astrid were part of. The Vikings of this village used to make a ritualistic and commemorative process right after conquests of their incursions across Europe.

It was a ritual that was born together with the village and exclusively remained there, they believed that using the skulls of their enemies as chalices to drink the spilled blood would be a way to please the gods for the achievements and absorb the skills and vitality of those defeated.

As much as Astrid also committed such acts, she carried some remorse when she saw her enemies claiming for their lives, but the fear of divine punishment made her stick to the traditional path.

But what no one knew was what this ritual was really creating. It wasn't the gods who fed on that energy. This cult of death, violence and especially blood accumulated enough energy for a spirit of darkness to materialize, they ended up creating a demon!

In a dawn that for them was a common ritual turned into a feast of intense pain, insatiable thirst and despair. From bone and blood materialized the bloody demon Blatqnn ("Black-Tooth"). A tall being, composed of blood and bones, a grotesque humanoid whose head was a black skull. Blatqnn was born into violence and proceeded to attack everyone in the village, after satiating himself he fled, but not before cursing the villagers souls forever, turning their human hunger into bloodlust, the sun into a death sentence, and a lifetime eternal that could turn into unchanging agony.

Many there died at sunrise, not knowing that direct contact with the star's rays could burn their skin like embers to dust.

It took a few years for what was left of the people to adapt and discover that along with all this misfortune they would also be bestowed with powers that were beyond human comprehension.

They were the first vampires, the only ones able to reproduce through biting and offering some of their own blood to their new creation.

But Astrid was the only one whose power of creation did not awaken.

For centuries she studied and trained to gain this gift, but all was in vain. Her biggest dream has always been to have a child, but even as a human her body wasn't able to grant that wish, and now as a vampire, she can't bear that the only chance she had left to fulfill her dream no longer existed.

Surviving a life without apparent purpose, Astrid decided to move away from her village and live alone, wandering without a fixed place.

After hundreds of years wandering the world, when her hope already seemed like an impossible dream, during an eclipse of the blood moon, in a forest of oak trees, she felt a cry for help that touched the depths of her heart, and almost hypnotically without hesitation, Astrid went to meet the dying boy lying beside the lifeless body of his beloved one.

Conceding herself one last attempt at giving her existence a purpose and a last chance at life for the boy, Astrid offered her blood to give life to her first creation, and thus Damien was born again.
