It's the next day in chemistry and we have a test. I see Evie rummaging through her purse, most likely looking for her mirror. "Looking for something?" Mr. Deley says, holding up said mirror. How in the world did he get.... I shift my gaze to Chad who is wearing an annoying smirk and raises his eyebrows. "Thank you, Chad." Mr Deley says. "It's gratifying to see someone still respects the honor code. It will be my recommendation that you are expelled." He adds, making me sit up. "Mr Deley, that isn't fair." I say, making his eyes flit to me. "Mhm, yes. Like you villains would understand fairness." He says. I glare at him, feeling annoyance and anger fill my chest. "For all I know, you're cheating too." He adds. Doug stands, nodding at me discreetly before turning to Mr Deley.
"Obviously they weren't cheating since she didn't have that...whatever it is." He says before Evie cuts in. "It's called a magic mir-" I kick her leg lightly. "You're not helping. Stop." I say nicely before looking back at Doug. "Maybe she needed another pencil." Doug adds before Evie tries again. "Actually, I was-" I cover her mouth with my hand. "Really, don't help." I whisper into her ear, earning a nod in response. I catch her eye and I see a twinkle of mischief before feeling her tongue swipe briefly on my palm, making my eyes widen. "Please?" Doug asks. I let go of Evie, feeling heat rush to my cheeks as she smirks at me before putting on puppy eyes and turning to Mr Deley. "Please?" She repeats.
Mr Deley sighs. "Well, if you can pass this test, I'll return your property and let the matter drop." He says. Evie smiles, nodding and sitting down. One Mr Deley turns away, I see Evie glare at Chad, who glares back at her. I put my hand on Evie's under the table, running my thumb along her knuckles before making her look at me and nodding to the paper. Using her free hand, she lifts the pencil and tries to focus. I look at Chad, who smirks at me. I glare at him, allowing my eyes to glow faint blue, successfully scaring him off as he ducks his head and scribbles on his paper. I smirk, letting go of Evie's hand and beginning my own paper.
After class ends, Doug rushes off to his locker to grab some almost overdue work or whatever as Evie and I approach Mr Deley. I put my hand on my hips, raising an eyebrow as he marks her paper. "It seems like you passed, Miss Grimhilde." He mutters, looking at us. He didn't need to mark mine yet because I didn't do anything, even though he was suspicious. "I guess I was mistaken." He adds before handing her the magic mirror and her paper which has a bright red 'B+' on it. "Thank you." Evie says before turning to me, smiling widely and grabbing my hand. We walk to our lockers, putting things away before Evie turns to me. "I want to thank Doug." She says. I nod, spotting the boy outside in the picnic area. "There." I say before pulling her with me.
We head outside, seeing him with his back to us before Evie sneaks up on him and places her test paper in front of him. "For the first time, It's like I'm more than just a pretty face." She mutters. It makes my heart swell to see her realising this, even after all those years of her mother speaking down to her. "A shocker, huh?" he asks, turning and seeing me too. "You two were pretty great in there." Evie says. I raise my hands, smirking. "Don't thank me. I didn't say that much." I say before nodding at Doug. "He did great." I say. Doug smiles nodding gratefully. "Thanks. But you were too." He says. Evie smirks, resting her hands on her hips. "I bet I can get an "A" on the nest test without the mirror." She says, making me smile.
"Yeah. Well, maybe we can get together and we'll hang out with..." He says before meeting my gaze which I'm sure says 'back off, she's mine.' "Yeah, let's get together." Evie says, making my heart drop before she adds "But to be clear, this is as friends. I have recently realised that I want to focus on myself more. And if something happens to turn into something..." She says, her gaze flicking to me for a second. "Then so be it." She finishes. Before any of us can answer, I hear footsteps behind me. "There you are! I have been looking for you literally everywhere!" Mal says, reaching us.
"What's wrong?" Evie asks as I internally laugh at Mal's horrified, scared, nervous and stressed appearance. "Ben just asked me out on...a date." She says, finding it hard to get the last words out. "Nice." Doug says, as if it wasn't weird. "We can handle this." Evie says before bidding farewell to Doug as we leave to our dorms.
"You're looking a little pale." Evie says as the two walk in front, me trailing behind. "Yeah, of course." Mal says as if it was obvious. "I can fix that with some gloss and some blush." Evie says, excited to finally be able to do makeup on Mal. "No!" Mal says. "Mal, I can use the" "No, no, no." Mal repeats, making me laugh the whole way back.
As Evie and Mal are in the princesses room doing makeup, I'm following Evie's orders in grabbing what to wear. "Here." I say, giving the jacket to Mal who takes it once Evie's done. "Are you afraid of her?" Mal asks. "Sometimes. Are you afraid of your mom?" Evie asks back. Mal looks at me, sighing. "I just really want her to be proud of me. Y/N is the favourite child, and she gets so angry with me when I disappoint her." She says. I nod, sitting beside them. "Even as the favourite she is never satisfied with me. And, yeah she's our mom." I say. "And we know she loves us....in her own way." Mal finishes, looking at me with a small smile. Evie tilts her head before standing. "Moving on. Come see." Evie says, pulling Mal to a mirror where we look at her reflection. "Are we done?" Mal asks.
"Yeah." Evie says as Mal looks at herself. "Wow." Mal says. "I know." Evie replies. "I look..." Mal tries before stopping. "Say it." Evie pushes. "Not hideous." Mal finishes. I chuckle, resting an arm on her shoulder. "Not even close." I mutter. There is a knock on the door and Evie and I wait back as Mal goes to open it, revealing Ben who is in his varsity jacket and holding two helmets. "For the first time, I understand the difference between pretty and beautiful." He mutters. I internally gag at how cheesy it is. "I hope you like bikes." Ben adds before holding out a helmet. Mal takes it, turning and giving us a horrified look before they walk away. "That was so cheesy." I mutter once they're gone. "Ooooh yeah." Evie says, smiling before going to close the door.
Once closed, we settle on the couch together. "So. What does Evie Grimhilde have planned today?" I ask, smirking. "Well, I was hoping to finish off my dress for the Coronation. Buuuut...." She adds before looking at me. "But..?" I ask. "I was hoping to make you one too." She says. "Oh yeah?" I ask. "Mhm. Will you let me?" She asks in a low, raspy tone. I can never say no to this girl, so I nod. "Great. I have a vision. Give me a bit to get the fabrics, then I'm measuring you." She says, grabbing her purse and heading out.
I ended up watching TV for a while before she returns with rolls of light blue and purple fabric. "Okay, chop chop." She says, placing the fabric down and grabbing her measuring tape. I stand in the middle of the room as Evie bustles around, grabbing things and her notebook for sketches. "Stay still." She whispers before using the measuring tape and putting it around my waist.
I try to ignore the feeling of her hands roaming my body to measure it, trying to push down the blush that is threatening to reach my cheeks. "Would you be interested in a cape type thing?" She asks from where she is, which happens to be at my legs measuring for shoe sizes. "I...erm.." I get out, trying to ignore the feeling of her light breaths hitting my thighs as she looks up at me. "What's wrong?" She asks in a low tone, smirking at me. I don't reply, just look away as she stands. She uses a finger and turns my head, making me face her. "Is something bothering you?" She asks innocently, but I feel one of her hands resting on my hip as the other holds the measuring tape. "N-no." I say, biting my tongue. "Mhm, you know, you're not a good liar, Y/N." She whispers, using the measuring tape and putting it around the back of my neck.
"I'm not..." I say before she takes both sides and tugs the tape, pulling me closer to her, our face inches away from each other. "Sure." She mutters before placing her hands on my shoulders and staring at me. After a while, she starts acting like she was measuring my shoulders instead. "Alright. Any other specific additions you'd like?" She asks, not releasing me but now slightly further apart. I shake my head, making her nod. "Alright." She says before leaning in and whispering into my ear. "Thanks for your cooperation." She whispers before placing a light kiss just below my ear.
She walks away, notebook in hand as I stand there stunned. My heart beats fast and breaths come out shallow. I clear my head, shaking it before clearing my throat to see Evie smirking at me. "Do-do you have your mirror? I want to make sure Mal isn't murdering the prince." I say. Evie nods, lifting and speaking to it. "Mirror, mirror, in my hand. Show us where Mal and Ben's date land." She says before tossing it over. I see the two, laughing and eating food together before Ben goes to the cliff to jump into the water, Mal watching with a fond smile on her face. "She likes him." I mutter. Evie looks at me, smiling sadly. "Yeah, she does."
