you're so vain.

Riley and Rooster hadn't moved an inch since he locked the door. All they did was stand there and stare at each other. Rooster had locked the door just to shut her up but he hadn't realised his mistake. They hadn't been alone together like this in such a long time, with no chance of someone disturbing them. Riley also didn't have the chance to do what she usually would—which would be to run from the confrontation she knew was coming. Rooster wanted to have it out, she knew he did. She just wasn't ready for it.

They were both breathing heavily as they stood there, taking each other in. Riley's mind was going a hundred miles per hour with so many thoughts smashing around in there whilst Rooster wasn't thinking about anything else but her as he watched her chest rise and fall.

Riley was the one that broke eye contact first, turning away from him and back towards the sink, looking in the mirror, "I can't do this right now, Rooster." She told him, shaking her head.

Hesitantly, Rooster took a few steps towards her but kept his distance. He held his hands up, "I come in peace, okay? I just wanted to see if you were okay after that jerk showing up." He told her honestly. At least, that had been his intention. But now, he was staring at her in a locked room with the reminder of what it felt like to have his hands roam each curve of her body. And it was driving him wild.

Riley sighed, "He's really not that bad." She mumbled, touching up her makeup in the mirror. It wasn't necessary, but she needed to do something to keep her occupied.

Rooster scoffed, "That guys a bag of dick, and you know it, Riles." He told her, rolling his eyes.

'Please stop calling me that' Riley's mind said, but it wasn't the words she spoke. Instead, she glanced up at him and narrowed her eyes, "And you aren't? Any other guy in this damn bar isn't?" She challenged, raising her eyebrows. Riley knew that Rooster didn't think he was better than everyone—he wasn't her brother. But she could tell that he thought he was better than Luke and she hated that she wanted to agree.

Rooster scoffed, his lip twitching upwards, "You and I both know that guy ain't worth shit—so you can look at me like that all you want. I know I'm better than him, hell, probably in most aspects." Riley's breath caught in her throat. She couldn't be sure Rooster had meant it the way her mind had gone. But suddenly, she was standing there, comparing the sex between her ex-boyfriend and ex-lover. And Riley knew who was better.

Without realising, her eyes flickered down to Rooster's lips and he caught onto it. The tension made the air prickly as Rooster took a slow step towards her, "I can't stand this." He said, his voice low, his eyes trained downwards, staring at her face.
