She could never tell you how

He never gave up smiling

With his blue eyes always Sparkling

He could always make her laugh

That's all she knew

That's all she knew

Jenna sang another verse.

She could never could stay angry

His clumsy walk

His apologetic smile

That's all she knew

That's all she knew

Jenna sang. Jenna could see his eyes. She felt a little like crying

She could never tell you when or how

She could only tell you why

Yes, why does she love him

that's all she knew

that's all she knew.

Jenna started in on the chorus. Before she knew it she was finishing the song

The way he held his head high drove her wild.

The way he never looked at her drove her insane

she could always tell the reasons that she loved him.

that's all she knew

that's all she knew

that's all she knew....

Jenna allowed a tear to streak down her face. Her voice faded with the music. Jenna wiped her tear and smiled as she was met with applause. The boy from the guitar shop was smiling up at her and holding up his phone. She felt like he video taped her. She mock bowed and walked off stage. The lump in her throat that had been there since Milly and the library had died. Music and expressing herself helped her release her feelings.

"Tell me you didn't." She said.

The boy grinned grinned .

"Maybe if he sees it that boy you were singing about will finally see how amazing you are." Jenna shook her head.

"He's clueless."

Jay flung his book bag onto the chair as his siblings scampered away excitedly. Plopping down across from Thomas, he pulled his books and paperwork from his bag. He studied it carefully, dumbfoundedly. This made absolutely no sense at all. Why was he expected to do this? Would he use it in real life? He shrugged. At least if he knew it he'd be a better problem solver! And so he sat in a confused silence, chewing the end of his pencil, his brain practically fried.

-----------------------------------------------------

Jenna fell asleep crying and writing song lyrics that sounded like nonsense to her ears. Something about happy endings and Juliet. Jenna was so tired. Tired of being ignored. She realized that she was probably chasing the wrong boy, not for the first time. She would get over her best friend, she really meant it. He liked Milly besides. He could never love a plain Jane like Jenna. Jenna read somewhere that if you love someone truly you just have to leave them be. They'll find they love you on their own. She seriously doubted that. It was time to get over Jay.

--------------------------------------------------

Jay's head rested on his nearly finished homework, and he shut his eyes. Drool seeped onto page 786 of his text book as he slept, his sisters giggling at him as they poked at their dinner.

"Leave him be, girls. He's got a lot if homework to finish," his mother's voice somehow leaked into his dreams. His very strange dreams. Sometimes they had dancing chickens, or dental bills, but this time was different. This wasn't a dream. It was a nightmare. He found himself running around in circles in a desert, until he realized it was a giant Milly's palm, and all his friends, including Jenna and Carlos, were locked in her other fist...

-----------------------------------------------------

Jenna woke up screaming. She barely remembered why. All she remembered was little flashes of a night terror. She remembered Jay standing above her, plunging a knife through her heart over and over again. Jenna remembered telling him to stop and Jay grinning that grin he has. She climbed back in bed and didn't wake up until she was already late for school.

He didn't wake up until it was dark outside, and his lip was now coated in spit. He yawned. He might as well finish his homework now, right? Wiping the saliva from his face with his sleeve, he set to work on finishing his homework, though he was distracted. It was a weird dream.
