Amy crys tears of joy, laughing. I can't tell if she's sad that I was gone or happy I'm not dead. I can't tell which would be worse. Soon enough it turns into tears of sorrow. She sits up beside me, while my weak back can't get up, and I groan like how Uncle Chuck used to when he was still alive. I miss him.

"Ow.." I chuckle, smiling. Tears still fall down Amy's face as she wipes them off.

"You stupid jerk." She spats. "I thought you'd never come back.. and I never got to tell you I love you..." Her words were subtle and I could barley make out what she was saying with my clogged ears. "And how much you stink." She smiles through her tears, laying her hands on her lap while staring down at the blanket.

I try and speak but I just end up coughing again. Amy helps me to sit up straight, back agaisnt the pillow and I hesitate the first words I've really gotten to speak since I got out of Labyrinth. I say them anyway, "I guess with all this decaying fur, I suppose I do smell."

Amy's face lights up and her eyes shine. "After three years, those are the first words you decide to tell me?"

"What other words would their be?" I try and smile, my voice still cracked.

"You're still the same old Sonic, arn't you." Her words flash in my mind. Am I really the same old Sonic? Or, have I changed for the worse?

"Yup."

"I'm going to go get Tails, he'll know what else to do." Amy moves off the bed and exits the room. Minutes later, both Amy and Tails return.

"Thank chaos you're awake!" Tails gives a warm smile, giving me a huge hug. Though he's gentle and careful about it. "Your bones are still extremely weak." His smile turns to a frown and he looks down. I assume he knows my vulnerability. "You can't stay here."

"What do you mean?" Amy turns to him and so do I. My vision has cleared a little bit more than before and I can see their worried faces.

"Well, we just don't have enough room. We have other people who are injuried from whatever situation they were in. We have to find somewhere else to take you, Sonic." Tails explains. He looks back up to me, waiting for an answer.

Amy interupts me before I can speak, "We can't just kick him out like that, Tails! After all this time, you're just going to throw him out just because someone else is injuried?!"

"Actually Amy, that's exactly what I'm talking about."

I clear my throat before talking and I speak up. "Amy, if this is what is best for Headquarters, then that's what we need to do. I can't argue with that. But, my only other question is, where else is there to stay?"

"Blaze and Silver are out on a mission and won't be back for a while, Knuckles is busy on Angel Island, Cream and Vinilla are out of town, the Chaotix are still venturing, I have no idea where Rouge is, I'm far to busy, and I'm sure Amy is too. The only one else I can think of is... Shadow."

"Shadow?! Theres no way he'd agree!" Amy shouted. The only one mobian I wish I could avoid.  Shadow's more on the negative side of things, rather than the positive. But either way, Amy is right. There's no way the Shadow the hedgehog would do a favor for anyone unless it was necessary.

"I know, but we have to try. We don't know if he'll agree or not, but what choice do we have?" Tails shrugged, stepping out of the room to call the other hedgehog. 

Moments later, Tails steps back into the room while me and Amy are waiting. I spoke up first, "So, what'd he say?"

"He agreed, but also he's still on call."

"I'm surpirsed you're alive, faker." I hear him across the screen. I haven't heard his voice in so long. Wonder what he's been up to.

"Hey, Shads." I chuckle.

"Keep in mind I'm not babysitting you." 

"I can take care of myself!" I higher my voice but then start coughing again. I still don't know if my throat can handle all of this, but oh well.

"Sure. I'll be waiting for your arrival." Shadow hangs up the call and Tails lowers his watch.

"See ya soon."
