Gia's POV

Adjusting to my new life in Alexandria was hard, Daryl and I had grown a little close in the past week that I was here.
Making friends wasn't easy either, I hadn't met anyone who was my age or even close except Carl, but one day, a small group of people came and I had finally made a friend.

*A Few Days Ago*

"Welcome to Alexandria, our safe haven or safe zone. I'll take you to Deanna, she's the one who runs this place." I saw Aaron bringing in a small group of people, a mother, two kids about my age maybe a year or two older, and a teenage boy.

I quickly got back to my chores, "Gia, can you take this back to the house and fold it please?" Carol takes my attention to hand me a basket full of clothes.
"Sure." I smile, heading back to the house I share with Carol, Daryl and Sam.
I finished folding the clothes when I heard a knock on the door, I got up to open it and I saw the girl from the group that came earlier.
"Hi, I'm Melanie, Melanie Borr." She smiles holding out her hand.
I shake it with a smile, "I'm Gianna but you can call me Gia for short." I introduce myself.
"That's a cool name, wanna play? I have this awesome game I made up." She says.
"Um, I actually have-," I get cut off when I hear a woman's voice, "Mel, lets not bother the neighbors, come on, let's go get comfortable in our new house." She gestures for Melanie to follow her.
"Okay, by the way, that's my mom Patty and my younger brother Otto." She points to her small family.
"Cool, I'll see you later." I wave to her as heads off with her mom and brother.

"Did you get the laundry done?" Carol asks.
"Yes, I was about to put it away." I nod.
"Good, so who was that girl you were talking to?" She asks.
"Her names Melanie, she seems nice, she's from that group that arrived about an hour ago." I answer.
"Maybe you two could be friends?" She smiles.
"I hope so, it's boring having no one my age to share interests with," I noticed Carol making an offended face which made me panic, "not that I don't think you and Daryl, and Carl aren't okay! I just wanna have someone more my level to talk to, you know?" I say in a rushed panicked tone.
Carol only laughs and waves off my answer, "ohh honey I was only kidding." She walks past me into the living room to gather the folded clothes to put away.
"Oh, okay." I laugh.

The next day, Carol let me go talk to Melanie instead of doing chores, I quickly ran out the door barely getting my shoes on, and raced to Melanie's house.
When I got there I knocked.
Her mother opened it, "oh, you must be the girl my Melanie was talking to yesterday," she smiles.
"Yes ma'am, I'm Gianna, but please call me Gia." I shake her held out hand.
"Nice to meet you, Melanie is inside getting ready." She gestures for me to come in, I walk inside seeing Melanie come down the stairs.
"I'm ready!" She smiles, practically bouncing on her toes.
We ran outside to join the other kids playing, when we got to the spot, there was two boys and a girl.
"Hi, can we play?" Melanie asks for us both.
"Sure, I'm Keygan, this is Bella and Uri." He introduces himself and the other girls.
"I'm Melanie and this is Gia." She waves as I only nod my head.

We play for hours until I spot Daryl and Sam coming through the gate.
"Sorry guys I gotta go," I say pointing to Daryl.
"Oh okay, see you tomorrow!" Melanie waves me goodbye.
I wave back as I run over to Daryl, "see ya!"

"Did ya have a good day?" Daryl smiles down at me.
"Yes." I nod, hugging his leg before hugging Sam.
"C'mon lets get home, I brought something back for ya." He takes my hand as we walk to our house.
"What is it?" I ask when I sit on the couch.
"A necklace with a wolf on it," he held up the necklace, "figured it suited you. Because your feisty, but also kind, helpful, alert and not afraid." He smiles putting it around my neck. I smiled as I held it in my hand, I hugged him tightly before running off to show Carol.

"Carol! Look what Daryl got me!" I run to the kitchen to find her cooking.
"Ohh what is it?" She smiles, taking off her oven mitts, I proudly hold up the necklace.
"Wow, you must be pretty special of Daryl gets you gifts." She side eyes you with a smile.
"Doesn't he get gifts for everyone?" I tilt my head with a confused expression.
"No, well only Sam and maybe Carl but he doesn't do that for anyone else." She shrugs.
"Oh." Is all I say, "Can I help you?" I peek over the counter.
"Sure, grab the flour please." She nods to the pantry.
I open the pantry, grab the flour and hand it to Carol, she pours some in then hands me a spoon to mix it.
"What are we making?" I ask as I stir.
"Cookies, but with a twist, we put acorns and beets in them." She holds up a pan of freshly baked acorns.
"Aren't acorns bad to eat?" I ask.
"Not if you don't cook them, but if there cooked they are perfectly fine." She answers.

After Carol puts the cookies in containers she and I go around the neighborhood handing them out.
"Here you go, enjoy!" I smile handing on to a woman.
I see Carol handing on to a mother as I see two of my friends run by.
I knock on the door of someone's house and the door opens, "oh hello, can I help you?" He asks.
"My names Gia, me and Carol baked some cookies, here." I grab a container and hand it to him, he takes it with a smile, opens it and takes a bite.
"Wow these are delicious, thank you."
"Your welcome." I say and go to give some to the other people.

After that, I head home to get ready for dinner.
I walk into the kitchen to find, Rick, Carl, Carol and Daryl.
"Hi." I smile, I sit on one of the bar stools next to Carl.
"Hey, how was your day?" Rick leans on the counter smiling.
"Good, I helped Carol hand out cookies to people." I take a piece of bread that is handed to me by Daryl.
"Do you like it here so far?" Carl asks.
"Yeah, you guys make me feel safe and loved, I greatly appreciate it." I answered biting into my bread.
"Your welcome." They say.
"Alright bedtime." Daryl says, he points upstairs and I dramatically pout while walking up the stairs.

Daryl comes up after I change into pajamas and climb into my makeshift bed.
"Goodnight." He rubs my forehead then leaves.

"Night." I yawn then fall asleep.
