Rachel's POV

The beeping of my alarm rang throughout my room and I groaned loudly before slamming my hand down on the clock to shut it up. I opened my eyes slowly and turned to see that it is six in the morning. I groaned again and stretched before getting up, slipping my slippers on and padding downstairs to the kitchen. I put on the kettle and tied my hair into a high ponytail with the bobble on my wrist.

Just as the kettle clicked to signal it had stopped boiling, the doorbell rang. I shuffled over to it and opened it to a frantic Chris.

"Okay I'm sorry I'm two hours early I'm just freaking out over-" Chris stopped once he noticed that I was only in shorts and a tank top. I crossed my arms over my chest and glared at him. "I'm really sorry I just-"

"I get it," I interrupted, "But next time do you mind telling me you're coming early to save you seeing me like this?"

"Yeah sorry," He apologised. "Do you want me to go?"

"No of course not there's no point in you leaving and coming back in a couple of hours now is there? Please come in," I gestured for him to come in and he obliged. I lead him into the spacious living room and he sat down on the white leather couch facing the TV.

"Who's this?" He asked picking up a picture of my mother and I.

"No one," I lied and snatched the photo from him. "I'm going to get ready feel free to watch TV," I smiled in a fake manner.

I ran upstairs and collapsed on my bed in a heap of sobs; something happened to my mother and it is the reason I take the law very seriously and why I'm so serious about getting the right guy punished for a crime. It's the whole reason I became a lawyer- to make her proud.

I stood up and wiped my eyes, there's no time for this today; today is serious business.

I had to look casual, yet formal for what we were doing today so I put on black skinny jeans, a white blouse and a black cardigan. I put on my black stilettos and put a simple silver chain necklace around my neck. I tied my hair up into a tight ponytail on top of my head and put on light makeup, that looked as if I wasn't wearing any makeup at all, and grabbed my handbag off of my bed before walking back downstairs.

Chris was tapping on his phone, but he put it away immediately as I walked in. I walked past him and into the open plan kitchen. I made my way over to the kettle, which thankfully still contained hot water, and poured it out into my travel cup. I added a teabag then milk and sugar.

"Would you like tea or coffee Mr. Cerulli?" I called through.

"Coffee please, splash of milk no sugar?" Chris requested.

I got my other travel mug out of the cupboard and made his coffee in it. I walked into the living room and handed it to him then started to pace as I drank my tea.

Chris took a sip of his tea and then looked up at me. "Miss. Paige?" I stopped pacing and looked down at him expectantly. "What exactly is the plan for today?"

"We go and check up on Mr. Olson's alibi and if it is solid as he says it is then I will agree to take on this case and be his attorney and I will catch who really did this and get Mr. Olson out of there, but if the alibi proves to be false then he can rot in hell along with the other murderers who thought vile acts such as this were okay ," I explained. Chris noticeably gulped and nodded. "I'm glad we're clear on that Mr. Cerulli. Are you ready to go?"

He nodded and we got in the car to drive to where Richard claimed the be the night of the murder.

--

"Hello and welcome to Bush Street Co-Op!" The cashier greeted cheerfully. "It's buy one get one half off on all Galaxy chocolate bars for today only so make sure you pick one up!"

Chris went to walk to the chocolate bars, but I placed my hand on his arm firmly so that he wouldn't move. "Actually sir I was wondering if we could ask you a few questions?"

"On what?" He asked sceptically.

"The Richard Olson case you've heard of it yes?"

Realisation dawned on his face. "I have yes," He nodded, "Hold on." He locked the shop door and pulled the blind down over it so no one could see in. "What can I do for you?"

"Please state your full name for the record," I demanded as I got out my tape recorder.

"Vinny Mauro."

"Okay Mr. Mauro, where was Richard on the night of February 11th?"

"He was here buying cigarettes Miss," He answered without missing a beat.

"What time did he arrive and how long did he stay for?"

"He arrived at 10:15 and left by 10:25," He answered.

"How long does it take to get from here to the crime scene?" I asked.

"Ten minutes walking, which he was," Vinny stated.

The woman was killed at about 10:40 and it would've taken the killer about five minutes to do what he needed to do so Richard would've had enough time to do what he needed to do to kill that woman. His alibi isn't good enough.

"Oh I almost forgot!" Vinny exclaimed. "He caught his girlfriend making out with someone so that would've preoccupied him for a while."

"How do you know this?" I asked.

"Because she came in here drunk and gloating with her toy on her arm," He spat in disgust.

"Okay thank you," I smiled. If I can locate his ex-girlfriend then his alibi may just be good enough, but she was drunk so she might not remember anything. Hopefully she does.

--

"I'm sorry I don't remember anything," She smiles innocently at me. I narrowed my eyes at her; I could tell she was lying.

Ricky's ex had black hair with a red tint, a hollow, pale face, a long nose that was hooked at the end and she wore purple contacts. I had been asking her a lot of questions about the night of the murder and she claims to remember nothing.

"I will find out the truth," I warned, "I'll see you in court," I spat and jumped into the car, slamming the door shut behind me.

Chris, who had been waiting in the car for me, looked over at me expectantly. "Now what?"

"We wait for the court case tomorrow."

"You're going to do it?" Chris asked delightedly.

"Yes. I'm not sure if Richard is innocent, but I do know that something about that girl isn't and I won't rest until whoever did this is put behind bars."

Chris nodded and I started to drive away when I had an idea and pulled over to the side of the road.

"Does Richard have any alibis for the other murders?" I asked.

"You'll have to ask him I don't know," Chris said helplessly.

"Okay I will," I nodded excitedly. "It won't prove he didn't do this one, but it can prove he isn't a serial killer and if they work out that it was the same person and not a copy cat killer then it'll prove Richard innocent." I told him.

Chris nodded. "I want to thank you again," Chris said sincerely.

"Don't thank me, it's my job," I dismissed him.

"No, you save lives and you're about to save another because I promise you right here and now that Ricky's innocent!"

"Just wait until tomorrow, but it won't end tomorrow this is going to be a long thing," I warned.

"I know," He sighed.

Now we wait.
