Being totally honest with you, I have no idea how to tell this story. Casey is the most complicated person I have ever met. Telling about our weird, odd friendship is hard, and at this moment, painful to do. I guess I'll start with a basic backstory of what happened in our younger years.

Casey and I were great childhood friends, we sat by each other everyday on the bus doing everything from talking, to drawing pictures in the frost on the window, to singing spongebob songs. Our relationship was quite odd actually, he was calm and collected whereas I was crazy and hyper and enjoyed annoying him very much. He was that shy kid who rarely talked and I was that hyper kid who talked too much.

Sixth grade...

In sixth grade I found out my good friend Sara from my school knew Casey from doing percussion in band together. Us being sixth graders we were immature and came up with a plan to trick Casey, to this day I still can't believe he fell for it. We tried to convince him we were sisters and he's not stupid enough to believe that because we looked nothing alike. So we spiced it up and bit and said that our parents got married and that her dad was my step-dad and my mom was her step-mom. He didn't fall for that either because she didn't ride the bus with me so we continued on to explain that our parents got divorced. After making up story after story, even one about a cake saying "Happy Divorce" he actually fell for it. He ended up believing us for two years until we explained it was a joke, he felt pretty stupid after hearing that and I'm pretty sure I laughed for the full hour and a half we were on the bus.

We both lived in the country outside a small town in northern Minnesota. The town was so small there were few schools so by time middle school rolled around we were able to go to the same school because there wasn't a catholic middle and high school, only elementary.

Seventh grade...

Middle school for us was a very interesting experience, we both became very awkward like any normal middle schooler. Neither of us were popular, he had his group of hillbilly country friends and I had one of those weird complicated mixed gender groups of friends. I don't know when it happened but I guess he developed a crush on me. I mean it was bound to happen and I was that girl with the curse of all the "weird guys" liking me.

Eighth Grade...

Casey had built these giant walls up around himself and wouldn't let anyone in, I'm not sure when it started but he changed...a lot. He wouldn't let anyone in to talk to him. It hurt me so much because after our years of friendship I expected him to trust me, you know? I was so hurt and upset that he wouldn't trust me and tell me what was going on, I later learned he didn't tell me because he didn't want to hurt me.

I did eventually learn, one night me and Casey had a really deep conversation and I learned he was depressed and had been cutting all of eighth grade (this was about early June). I hate texting and I was so upset and he knew this so he decided to illegally drive his red pickup and come pick me up around 1am so we could talk.

This was the start of everything...

Alrighty guys, so this was basically one big authors note just explaining everything. Next chapter the story will really pick up and start to make more sense...telling my own story compared to a fictional story is so different, and also hard because it's like putting myself out there. I haven't told most people about this story, so it's scary but exciting. I hope you enjoy reading this story as much as I have enjoyed living it. Although I do warn you, many tears will be shed.
