I got into my car, and looked at my phone. I have a new text from Rachel and a call from the Day Care center. Crap! I said while speeding out of the parking lot. I made a quick right turn and sped down the road.

I quickly parked in a parking spot, and jogged to the front entrance of 'Children's Love' I opened the door to find the secretary holding Matt's little hand who was crying. "Matt! I am so sorry buddy!" I said while rushing over to where he was.

He sobbed onto my shoulder, "I thought you left me." He said in between cries. His tears made me want to break down with him. Once he finished with the waterworks, I pulled away.

I looked up to see an understanding Mrs. Buchanan, "I am so deeply sorry for not picking him up. I didn't go to school today and lost track of time." she just shrugged said it was okay.

I picked up Matt's bag and walked to the car. After he was settled inside, I sat in the front seat and looked at my phone.

'Where the heck are you! I'm at your house but you aren't here! What the heck Kayla! You weren't in school today either.! Are you okay!!!?'

I typed a quick reply back to Rachel, and drove to the house. When I looked in the rear view mirror, I could see Matt just staring out the window. I felt so bad. I should have never went to the pizza house. Stupid Ryland.

I pulled into the driveway, helped Matt out, and made our way up the sidewalk, but before we reached the door, it flew open with an angry Rachel with her hands on her hips staring at me. "Sorry Rach." I said pathetically.

I walked past her, and got some chips and dip out for Matt. I wasn't hungry from the late lunch I had, but Matt was starving. "I woke up late, didn't want to go to school, but hungry for pizza, so I went to the pizza house, ate a pizza and lost track of time. I am really sorry Rachel. Please forgive me!" I pleaded while pouring some Dr. Pepper into two glasses.

"Oh shut up!" She practically screamed at me. I was caught off guard. "I am not mad that you forgot to text me. I am freaking mad because I heard you were on a date with Ryland! He is bad news Kayla. You know that! So what are you doing ditching school with him!"

"How did you know?" I asked desperately. I bet it was Marge. I will definitely have a word with her about what happened. I wonder if she is waiting for him to call her right now. His face was priceless when he found out she liked girls.

"KAYLA! Gosh do you have to be so stupid! I am talking to you and you're just blanking out! Seriously girl!? What has gotten into you! Ever since Markus you have changed. You don't talk to us about things, heck. I think you were the idiot who actually believed him when he said he loved you. Me and Ashley tried to tell you to stay away from him, but no of course you have to take a "risk" Yeh right Kayla. You know it only makes you the stupid one. He never loved you Kayla, nor will Ryland. So just back off. I'm saying this cause I care. "

'Yeh. Right. I can see you care.' Insert the sarcasm there x100. Once she mentioned Markus I could feel the color leaving my face. My hands felt like they were glued to the corner of the granite counter.

"Look. Sorry I ain't perfect. I'm sorry that my 'boyfriend' is now a daddy and I still am upset about that. I'm sorry that he lied to me and fooled me into thinking that he cared about me. I'm sorry that I'm a screw up. Sorry that I went on a "date" with Ryland which I did not do, and whoever freaking told you that can go die in a hole. Sorry I have been ruining your few months. Okay. Sorry."

We stared at each other with scowls on our faces until realization hit me. "I am not going to fight with you over something that happened awhile ago. It is pointless." with that being said we both smiled and hugged each other. "Sorry!" We both said at the same time. We looked into each other's faces which were both covered in tears and laughed at our looks

It was around dinner time and Rachel had to leave. At least we finished our project. Turns out it was on something completely opposite of what I thought it was going to be. Who would have thought that our project was on Iowa. Ahh..close enough I guess. Rachel did most of the work though. Thank goodness she is a genius.

"Matty! Come downstairs!" I shouted while hanging onto the railing looking up at the catwalk waiting to see Matt run across.

"What Sissy?" He asked while running down the stairs.

"What do you want for dinner, Bud?" I said while roughing his hair up.

"Pancakes!" Matt said while taking my hand into his own and dragging me into the kitchen.

"Pancakes? For dinner?" He looked dead serious. I shrugged my shoulders, "Okay fine, but as long as you will help me make them."

I set out all the supplies that needed to be out to make Great Grandma's Pancake Scratch. It didn't take long before me and Matt were eating. We did a pretty good job if I do say so myself. We still had two hours left until Matt had to go to bed. "Go get a shower and once your done we will play a game..okay?" Matt agreed then ran up the stairs to the bath.

I cleaned up the kitchen, then went upstairs into Matt's room. I knocked onto his bathroom. "Everything good Matt?" I heard a yes, and finished picking up the dirty clothes scattered around his room. I made my way into my mother's and mine, after I picked all those clothes up I walked down the hall into the washer room.

I threw a load into the machine and checked on Matt again. Even though he is probably fine, I still will never forget the time when I almost drowned in the bathroom when I was little. I did not want Matt to ever experience that too.

I can remember it like yesterday, after all it is the reason why I have never learned how to swim. I was about Matt's age, and my parents for the first time let me get one all by myself. I remember trying to reach down to the bottom of the tub trying to get one of my toys that didn't float.

When I was reaching down to get my toy, one of the bathtub caddy shelves fell over forcing my small body to be completely under the water. Thank God for the siding of the tub that held up the shelves or else I would have been crushed at the bottom of tub.

I was little though, and I panicked. I started sucking in all the soapy water which only made me have more trouble breathing. I can't remember how long it was until my mom came into the bathroom. I couldn't hear her or see anything. I was unconscious. The rest I know based on what my mom said. She took the shelves that were all connected on a pole off the bathroom tub, and reached down quickly to grab me up. She thought I was dead. She started doing CPR, while my dad called an ambulance.

You can hopefully figure out what happened next, I survived
