"Dad this is breathtaking."

I looking up at the enormous waterfall and so was my brother.

"Your mother loved this place..." he said wearily. I could see pain in his eyes.

"Wanna go swimming? I brought your suits. There's a cottage near by to get changed in." He quickly changed the subject.

"YES I'm sweating!" Micah said.

He already started peeling off his shirt.

"What? A cottage? Since when did we have a cottage? Is it even ours?" I was asking too many questions at one time.

"No, a close friend of mine owns it. I think they're coming soon, actually."
"How long are we staying here?"
"Lail, calm down," my brother insisted.
"We could stay for a day or two. I packed some clothes for both of you."
"This was so random.." I said thinking out loud. I'm so happy I didn't make any plans.
"I know but I thought you'd love this so I decided to make it surprise."
"I do, I do. Don't worry."
"Let's go get changed, Its so hot," Micah was so persistent.

********

"It looks so cozy."

I was observing the log cottage. It had 2 floors, and was made out of a deep colored timber.

"It is," he smiled.

My dad opened the door and gave us a quick tour of the place. I'm surprised he nor mom ever mentioned this place to us before.

"Would you consider these friends of yours like 'family'?" Micah asked, using his fingers to air quote 'family'.

"No, just friends. My friends name is John, and his wife's name is Karen. They have a son, named Jace, I believe he's around your age, so you two won't be alone."

********

Micah and I got changed and started walking back to the waterfall.

"Why do you think Dad brought us here?" he asked me.
"I don't know. I'm surprised he didn't ever tell us about this place, since its 'special'."
"He probably didn't want to talk about it, Lail."

We were just about to jump off one of the rocks when we saw a woman, man and a teenage boy approaching.

"That's probably them Micah. We should go tell Dad."
"Ugggghhhh but I want to go innn.."
"Fine, I'll go get Dad."

I walked back to the cottage and got my father. We walked outside and met up with the family, Ive never seen them before. I find this whole situation so random.

"John, Karen, Hey!" my Dad sped up and hugged each of them. He seemed to know them so well, how haven't I met them before?

This Jace kid looked like he felt as awkward as I did. He had light brown hair with deep blue eyes. He was so attractive.

"Oh my gosh, Lailah, you've grown so much!" Karen smiled and moved to hug me. This was so awkward.

"Lail, you probably don't remember them, they haven't seen you since you were very little."

Yeah, thanks Sherlock.

I gave a nervous smile to them, people made me nervous. Jace was staring at me, which made me even more nervous. Especially because I was still in my swimsuit. I think I started to blush.

"Wheres Micah?" my Dad just realized he wasn't here.
"I'll go get him."

I'm so happy I got out of that.

"Micah, Dad wants you to meet them."
"I jumped in so I didn't have to."
"Micah, be nice."

My brother was a very social person, he should be excited to meet a guy his age.

"Ugh fine."

I wasn't going in the water alone, so I walked back with him. We went inside the cottage and I searched the walls for a clock; I suddenly ran into something.

Actually, someone.

Shit.

"Hey, watch out," he hesitated, "Lailah?"

It was Jace. He had a deep voice.

"Sorry," I fumbled, "Y-yes. Its Lailah."
"Don't worry about it, I'm Jace."
"Hey, Jace. uh.."

I had no idea what to talk about. God, why am I so awkward.

"How many times have you been here?" I asked.
"I come here a couple times a year."
"Fun."

We stood there for a couple seconds in complete awkwardness. Where did Micah go?!

"I'm gunna go find my brother. You should meet him."
"Okay."

I found him with my Dad and Jace's parents, of course he was talking with them. I've always been jealous of how he's more social than me.
