A Perfect World

Part 1

Catherine, Tonya and I stood tight up against the rail barricade lining the red carpet at the Sony Imax Theater. I was practically vibrating form the inside out with anticipation for Robert to arrive for the Premiere of Iron Man 2. There was an array of celebrities and high powered producers and directors heading down the carpet stopping along the way to sign autographs and pose for photographers. Then I seen Jimmy Rich pass by and Catherine yell out to him
"JIMMY!" He turned to see her waving wildly. He backed up to her and they began to talk, I did not pay much attention to the conversation as I was still on the lookout for Robert. Then before I could take another breath there he was. He was making his way up the line of yelling and screaming fans. He was alone, a site not uncommon these days. A rumor had been floating around the past couple of months that he and his wife were "unofficially" separated. I had turned to Tonya and grabbed her hand and squeezes hard.
"Ok calm down or you're going to faint" She said feeling that I was beginning to shake.
"I'm trying!" I said barley able to breathe. He came closer and closer stopping along the way for photos and autographs. As he approached us Catherine had finished her talk with Jimmy and returned to her place beside me. Tonya had put her arm around me to keep me either standing up or to prevent me from jumping the barricade and on to Robert. I felt my head start to swim, He walked up to Tonya and she handed him a piece of paper to sign for her brother's girlfriend who was a big fan. He glanced up at me then did a slight double take. Then I heard the words I have waited so long for.
"Hey there sweetheart what's your name" He said as he looked for something to sign.
"Umm....Umm A-Amy Mr. Downey, can I just have a photo with you please" I stammered out ready to hit the ground .
"Yeah... Sure thing"
He stepped beside me and I turned my back to the barricade and he put his arm around my shoulder. I felt myself shudder underneath his touch, and I let out a low sounding gasp. He looked at me with a smile that was meant to calm me but made me all that much more nervous. Tonya snapped the photo, and then he took my hand in both of his and squeezed it and thanked me for coming out and supporting him and the film. Everything was hazy to me it all happened so fast. He walked over to Catherine and signed her copy of Iron Man VS Whiplash #3. He chuckled a bit when he read the page she had it turned to.
"That is awesome, I'll have to pick that one up" he said as he scribbled his name on it.
As he moved up the line I caught him glancing back at me once or twice. My heart fluttered each time was he really looking at me. I chalked it up to my imagination. We walked to a coffee shop nearby Catherine filled us in on her conversation with Jimmy.
"So spill Catherin!" I said almost hopping down the sidewalk
"Well Jimmy said he would love it if I came to the after party to hang out with him. I think he was a bit sweet on me." She said with a saucy tone in her voice
"AND!"
"Well I told him that I had two friends with me and if they can't come then I could not come. He told me he would see what he could do, but could not promise anything."
I frowned
"Well that's a no!" I said
"Not necessarily, think positive" Catherin said as she opened the door to the coffee shop
"Positive, yeah right" I scoffed under my breath.
We ordered coffee to go and caught a cab back to the hotel to dump our cameras and precious cargo that now had been graced by Robert. After a quick make-up and hair touch up we headed out to the Oden restaurant, where the party was being held. We exited the cab and headed inside, my heart was pounding from nerves and excitement. We came to a large man standing at the entrance to the room where the party was in full swing, he held a clip board and had a headset on. We could hear the music and voices clatter together in side. Catherine walked up with such confidence she might as well of just walked right on past him. When she approached him the man straitened his stance and puffed his chest out a bit in authority.
"Can I help you ma'am"
"Yeah, Catherine Wesnick, and friends. I am a guest of Jimmy Rich"
"Wesnick,Wesnick" He mumbled lowly as he scanned the paper on his board. "Oh yeah Catherine, go ahead."
Catherine waved us over and we began to follow her in when the guy put his arm up in front of me causing to stop short, thus causing Tonya to bump in to me.
"Where do you think you're going" The burly guy bellowed
"We are with her" I said pointing at Catherine
"I did not see any one else associated with her name it only said her not 'and friends'"
"But. Catherine!" I yelled and she turned around to see we had been detained at the door. She hurried back and asked the guy what the issue was and explained we were with her.
"Look lady your name is the only one on the list it did not indicate you had guest with you, sorry I can't let them in."
"Ok Jimmy Rich is a friend of mine and he said it would be cool if they came with me."
"Lady I don't care if President Obama said it was cool, they still aren't getting in. No ticket not entry sorry"
He turned his back and walked a few steps away.
"Ok look wait here I'm going to go find Jimmy and have him straighten this out" Catherine said as she turned and walked in to the party. We impatiently paced outside the door I was bighting my thumb nail in anticipation. I finally sat down on cushioned bench opposite the door. I sat and stared down at my boots and sighed. I looked up at the sound of voices I though it was Catherine with Jimmy but they were coming from the street entrance. I looked up just in time to see it was Robert that had arrived with some of his co-stars and a few people I did not recognizes. He glanced back at me but there was no recognition of me on his face. Maybe it was just my imagination that he kept looking at me back at the theater. A few moments later I saw Catherine appear at the door Jimmy by her side. I jumped up and hurried over to the door, Tonya followed me close behind. Jimmy was talking to the guy as the door although I could not hear their conversation; the guy was shaking his head and pointing at the clip board. I could tell by Jimmy's body language he was trying to reason with the guy but he would not budge. I sighed I figured this would happen. I seen Jimmy put his arm on the guys shoulder and turned him away from us. I could tell they were in deep conversation. When they turned around the guy had a look of defeat on his face. He looked over at Tonya and me and rolled his eyes and waved us in. I quietly squealed and bounded in the door.
"Thank you, Thank you Jimmy." I said grabbing his hands
"No problemo"
Tonya and I looked for a place to sit, as Catherine and Jimmy walked to the bar to get some drinks for us. We found an area with small box shaped backless cushioned seats fixed around a medium sized square table, near the back of the room. I sat there taking this all in, celebrities everywhere, I recognized so many faces. Some I could not even put names to, then I began to scan the room for Robert. Catherine appeared at our area with three drinks in her hand. A rum and diet coke for me, a Bud Light for Tonya and a cosmopolitan for herself. She sat down and let out a sigh
"Whew, what a night but it is turning out good already"
"Where's Jimmy?' I asked
"Oh he was at the bar with me and Robert stepped over to him and pulled him a way; he said he would be right back, I told him to come find us."
My eyes widened "ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Did you talk to him" I asked
"Yeah, I did." she smiled a smirk of satisfaction
"What did you say?" I sat my drink down and turned to her and focused on every word she said
"Hello and I introduced myself again, he said oh yeah you're the girl with the comic book" She smiled big.
"Oh wow so lucky I probably won't even get to see him let alone say hi" I sighed. A moment later Jimmy came over to where we were. He sat down and Tonya and I introduced ourselves and we chatted a bit. Jimmy seemed to be cozying up to Catherine which she did not really seem to mind. She was secretly hoping to get close to Robert as well, as was I little did I know the night held many surprises for us all.
