Tw/s- blood, gore, gun violence

Y/n's POV
You let out a soft sigh as you placed the fruit into the blender, a lot of shit had happened lately and you didn't exactly know how to wind down from it all so you simply tried to distract yourself. However a sudden knock at the front door grabbed your attention, you wiped your hands on the t-towel before making your way to the front door carefully and cautiously opening the door as your eyes settled upon a familiar detective you had seen around recently "Miss y/l/n- is that correct?" His voice was stern but kind "yes" you said unsure and he offered a glimpse of a smile "I'm Jay, Jay halstead" he stuck his hand out for you to shake and you cautiously shook his hand "nice to meet you Jay.... I think... I'm y/n... as you already know" you said retracting your hand and letting it fall back down by your side as you smiled nervously

"Im sorry what is this about?" You asked visibly worried and not comfortable with being out in the open and he exhaled softly "I'm just doing checks around the apartments in this building, Chicago fire are doing checks on the building as well due to an odd smell coming from the exterior of the building- they just want to make sure everything is okay but I'm here to get statements from people that saw and heard everything that happened on the 5th" he said pulling out a notepad and pen and you sighed closing your eyes as you ran a hand through your hair

"right- well... I was sitting watching a movie and all I hear is this massive thud before gun shot after gun shot ring out, it was terrifying. It sounded like it was coming from left, right centre, on top of the building... I could not tell you but I knew it was close. It was terrifying." You explained and he nodded his head "no surprise there- pretty traumatic I'm sure." He said trying to sympathise with you as you nodded your head slightly, falling silent "have you found the suspect yet?" Your voice shakily asked and he looked into your eyes briefly before shaking his head "the shooter left bullets as a nice gift.... But there's no trace whatsoever other than that." He explained seemingly not wanting to get into police matters however that was the least of your worries a sudden shadow appearing just on the wall opposite you "Jay what's th-" however you couldn't finish what you were saying a sudden bullet flying through your window just behind you as it flew straight into the lower of your back, your knees buckling as you collapsed not even being able to comprehend what was going on. Jay pulled his gun out of his holster as he pointed it up at the window where the gunshot came from but once again there was no one there

"Sarge! Victim down! Roll in the ambos, pulse, still breathing- shit! hey... hey y/n... hey stay with me. Hey. Look into my eyes. Stay with me" he said urgently his tone worried as he gazed into your eyes a kind look on his face but his expression was plagued with worry. "You're going to be okay, no no don't shut your eyes. Stay with me." He lightly tapped your cheek with his fingertips grabbing your attention every so often but you struggled to even stay awake. "Cant wait" he murmured as he placed an arm around your shoulders his other arm wrapping around your waist as he lifted you up bridal style, purposely placing his arm on your wound as you groaned in pain "I know I know... I promise you're going to be okay. I won't let anything else happen to you." Seconds passed by like minutes as the moment you blinked and reopened your eyes you were on a gurney being wheeled somewhere lots of beeps being heard around you, "bullet wound, fainted twice in the ambo, pulse strong, breathing weak, blood pressure sky rocketed when we checked her- no exit wound." Someone explained their voice being unfamiliar, your vision was blurry and there were no familiar voices. Where was jay? "Patients name is y/n" another paramedic spoke your vision slowly clearing up as you looked around scared "j-jay... j-jay... where's Jay? Please.. Someone get Jay..." you stammered fearfully a red headed doctor coming into view "who is Jay to you y/n? I promise we'll find him..." he said assuringly tears prickling your eyes as you shook your head "Jay halstead... detective... he saved me." You said softly a sudden look of recognition forming on the doctors face as he smiled assuringly "Jay is my brother- I'm will Halstead. I promise we'll go get Jay when you're feeling better. You're in safe hands right now" He promised and you sniffled but nodded your head "okay... thank you." He nodded in return as he began speaking medical terms to everyone around him his tone authoritative and clear as an IV was inserted into the back of your hand, different machines being connected to you as more beeping starting whirring around you your head aching as you winced "jay..." you whispered once again as a sudden hand found it's way to yours as you glanced up noticing Will as he held onto your hand, even if he was just checking your pulse it was comforting, your eyes glazing over as you simply couldn't keep your eyes open anymore as your eyes fluttered shut as you fell into a deep sleep.

Three days later

The all to familiar beeping soon registered in your brain once again as you fluttered your eyes open, your eyes sore and tired as the white ceiling came into view "y/n I'm glad to see you're awake" the red headed doctor seemed to appear out of no where as he smiled at you standing directly in front of the light allowing your eyes to adjust much to your appreciation "do you remember who I am?" He asked and you frowned slightly "how long was I asleep for? And... yes... your names will..." you murmured softly and he nodded "good job. We managed to extract the bullet and you're healing well- you've been asleep for three days but you'll probably need more sleep to completely heal. Rest okay?" He said before lightly patting you on the shoulder as he left however you soon realised that he was gone... but a warmth was still holding your hand and as you looked to the side you noticed Jay "jay?" You asked quietly and he smiled at you "that's my name" he chuckled lightly "you came? You stayed?" You asked and he nodded squeezing your hand "of course. I needed to make sure you were okay." He said gently "and besides I have good news." He said and you nodded telling him to continue "we caught the suspect... he's being sentenced today- he's got over at least 80 convicted crimes so he'll be in there for a while hopefully" he said, your eyes lighting up as you smiled "that's great news" you said happily not realising that you were still holding his hand but he was comforting and kind.

"Jay? When can I go home?" You asked and he looked at you "probably in a day or two, until your gunshot wound has healed and until Will tells you, you can go home. He's the doctor after all." He said smiling and you hummed "but what If I want to go home now?" You asked attempting to pull the duvet off of you but as you tried you let out a slight yelp as you looked down embarrassed "how about... I stay here with you and when you're out of here I take you to Molly's- just down the road... so we can get a drink together" he suggested and you smiled "is that a date I hear halstead?" You asked and he raised his brows before nodding slightly "of course, a beautiful girl deserves a beautiful date after a horrendous time, hm- wouldn't you agree?" He asked and you smiled before nodding "I guess you're right" you said letting out a soft laugh before wincing resting your hand on the wound as you looked at him tiredly "that sounds great." You murmured and he smiled "good... but for now you've got to rest" he said softly "but Jay I-" he cut you off "ah ah ah- doctors orders. Sorry." He said before standing up "I'll go get some food okay? I'll get you some chocolate... alright? Don't move anywhere. Just sit there and keep looking pretty" he said with a playful smile, the kind of smile that made your stomach do backflips as you blushed looking down beaming to yourself.... Maybe just maybe this man was not only your hero but maybe the love of your life.
