Ugh Could we ever get a break?

I was replacing the floor boards on the porch of the monastery alongside Cole and Karloff. I was working in the middle of the porch, Cole on the left, Karloff on the right. I ran out of 1 × 4 black cherry planks I was using for the floor. To my surprise, my father came with a few more planks for me.

"Thank you father." I said nicely. I'm glad him and I are back on good terms. Well... More like forgiving terms. I got angry at him a lot when he was trying to train me to control my oni side. Huh.. maybe I should train with him some more about that. So I can use it for good and NOT turn into what my dad once was. That's one of my biggest fears.

Garmadon gave me a soft smile, and walked away. My dad can be quite unusual sometimes. I say that because he's walking out of the monastery. Probably going to see his plant, Christofern. That plant helped him learn how to care and be compassionate. I'm grateful for that guy from NGTV. Oh.. what's his name again? Jimmy- no... Vinny! That's his name. He told my dad what's more about life than survival.

I finished nailing down the board I was holding before using the planks my father gave me. I sat up and looked around for a few minutes break. I saw Jay and Nya putting up shingles on top of the walls of the monastery with Dareth, and some other citizens of Ninjago that came to help.

I noticed Kai and Skylor talking about something in the courtyard. Kai mentioned something to me about making it official with Skylor. I really wasn't paying that much attention at the time. I was more focused on making a plan to deal with the Crystal King.

I looked through the front door of the building and eyed Zane and Pixel fixing the elevator that went down to the secret base. It's going  to take ages fixing that part of the monastery. It was blown up when the generals of the Crystal King ambushed us, stealing the golden weapons in the process.

I turned my head from the door and sighted my mother talking to Harumi. I looked a bit closer as my mother side hugged the whitette. Harumi had this expression on her face, it looked sad, but with a smile. My mother must have asked her a yes or no question when Harumi nodded at her. I tried listening, but I only got bits and pieces of what mom was saying. I heard, my name a few times. Something about my old school, Darkleys School for Bad Boys, and the serpentine. I thought about it for a few moments, putting the 3 pieces together. Was my mother telling Harumi the story of how the Great Devour was released? I listened in a little while longer. I was right. My mother was telling Harumi about how I let the serpentine out. And how Pythor unleashed the Giant Serpent.

Just thinking back to it now, I was a pretty broken kid. I wanted to become my father. I wanted everyone in Ninjago to feel the pain I felt when my mother left me there at that boarding school.

Harumi turned over looking at me. We made eye contact for a good 15-20 seconds. She smiled at me and looked back to continue her work, listening to my mother speak my past.

If I'm being honest, I am a little embarrassed. You know how parents fluster their kids infront of other people? That's the kind of embarrassment I feel.

With a little bit of a red tint on my face, and a racing mind. I got back to work with the floor boards. Gotta get the monastery built back up quickly, right?
