The Sunyang Affair

Getting dressed after some fun time last night, she gets ready to start her day after all today is a big day for the Soonyang Group. Her partner long gone before her, she walks out of the hotel and gets something to eat at the nearest convenience store before heading to her apartment. 

Although equipped with fanciest gadgets money could get and a reliable security system, she never felt safe staying there for longer periods of time. It felt more like a fancy closet and a place to keep certain items than a home, especially since he could never be here with her. 

She headed to the UNICEF event happening on the same day. There was no better way to show off than with the timely foil of the Soonyang Group CEO being suspended from his sentence while she the honorary member was representing Korea on a global philanthropic stage. Her mother once held a similar a similar position. 

Sometimes she could not be more grateful for rejecting positions in the Soonyang Group and only supervising her assets that are managed by experts. Her time was better spent trying to balance out the karma of the Soonyang family. Even without the assets that her parents left her behind and only considering the wealth that she built off with the Soonyang shares and her own investments, she was the wealthiest of them all. 

She was not going to greet Jin Young Ki. He was not worth her time. She was however going to attend the Soonyang Group event. She was going to uphold the promise she made to the old man. 

She drove herself to the Headquarters. As she got out, she could hear her assigned codename by the security team. 5-0.  Even if she is not part of the Soonyang family, to outsiders she took on their name and was also belonged to them. Thus despite the mutual feeling of disgust shared between her and the Jin family, at least on the outside they were one. 

She entered the banquet hall that had already been filled by the various guests. Hyun Woo led her to her table, she was sharing with some shareholders, before leaving to his position. It was an appropriate place to be seated, not sharing the table with any of the family members nor too far from the family to destroy the sense of harmony between them. 

She had arrived a bit later as always in order to avoid spending too much time with the family. However it seems like she did not arrive late enough today. The main characters of this event had not arrived yet. The late arrival did not seem to be intentional, this thought was confirmed when she saw Hyun Woo leaving the hall, probably to look for the missing people. 

It was not long before the the family members and she were asked to gather privately in the office of the CEO's office. She did not hurry to get up and engaged with some small talk with the shareholders to ensure them that there was nothing to worry about. 

Once they were all gathered in the office, they were informed about the current situation. Jin Young Ki was undergoing some emergency surgery and they would need another person to replace him for the ceremony. 

The family immediately started scheming. The vice chairman was preparing to take up the position. Surprisingly, his own daughter undermined his efforts and wanted Seong-Jun to take up the position instead. Knowing them, Ha Rin knew that this was not without ill intentions. It was soon decided that Seong Jun would replace his father without a word from Ha Rin.

After the talk, Ha Rin was held back by Director Kim and Mo Hyun-Min while Hyun Woo was summoned. 

"If he does not make it in time, make the special announcement, Ha Rin" Hyun Min demanded from Ha Rin.

"Hyun Min, it seems like I have stayed too silent for too long. It seems like you have forgotten who you are talking to. Ah I remember you used to call me 'Unnie' although I was younger than you."

"Ha Rin. Your Korean name is still Jin Ha Rin. You have taken the the Jin name so take up the responsibility that comes with it. Quit being such a brat" Hyun Min said with disdain. 

"Me staying in Korea and doing what I do is already taking up the responsibility that comes with the Jin family name. With all the bullshit, you guys have been doing, without me giving you loans with a low interest and balancing out the reputation of the Jin family, do you think the Soonyang Group would still be able to stroud around the way they do now?" Ha Rin said not giving in. 

"What do you want?" Hyun Min needed Ha Rin to stand in for Seong Jun, if he decides to not show up after all. She was the only person associated with the family who did not want to take over the Group nor did she have any glaring weaknesses to take advantage of. 

"What is it that you are able to give me that I cannot get on my own, Hyun Min? Nothing. However since you need my help so bad, I will not stay stubborn. You just need to beg me." Ha Rin said with an arrogant look on her face. 

"Please, I beg you for this favor." Hyun Min barely got herself to talk while bowing deeply. 

"You are not fun at all. However I guess you did what I asked you to do. So I will uphold my part of the deal." Ha Rin left the room and walked past Hyun Woo without looking back.
