I nervously shuffled my feet as my mother explained the new neighbors were coming over for dinner. "Make sure to be nice! They have a kid your age. It would be great if you became friends." I watched her frown a bit as she continued. "You need to be more social." This wasn't the first time she nicely scolded you for not making "friends". You often sat in your room and pondered what was wrong with you. The doorbell rang and she gave you one last warning stare. Your heart was pondering in your ears.

As they walked inside you smiled and greeted them. Trying your hardest to be welcoming. The boy who was your age stood beside the woman expressionless. The younger boy who was around two, grinned and waved excitedly, it was too much. But you continued to smile even though it was exhausting, all throughout dinner. You answered every question and was a bit let down when the boy who you now knew as Choso ignored everyone. Why did you have to try to impress them...

"Y/N show Choso your room! Find a game you both like." Your mom tells you rather than asks. You watch as your mother takes out yet another wine bottle and you realize your frowning. Shaking yourself out of your mood you grin at Choso and tell him to follow you. Without a word to acknowledge you he follows.

"I have a PlayStation. Crash bandicoot is my favorite!" You say excitedly and watch as he sits on the floor and shrugs. You grin at him but in your mind you're a bit annoyed, you were trying your best!

"Stop smiling, it pisses me off." Choso suddenly speaks up and you're frozen in place. You had to take a second to process his words. When they finally register you glare as rage takes over. "Much better! True emotion! Fake smiles are the worst. Creeps me out." You gape at him and a small laugh escapes his lips.

"You're weird Choso." You mutter as you frown but the rage had seized in seconds at his words and the fact he was finally talking to you. You also relate to that disgust, when you recognize an ingenuine expression from those around you.

"I am but so are you right?" Choso leans his head to the side waiting for response. You knew you were. Never could quite figure out why being around humans was so difficult. So you watched them silently. Things they did often didn't make sense. But this boy within a few hours figured you out. What he just said most people would take as an insult. You on the other hand understood he did not mean it that way. You finally felt seen.

"Yeah you're right!" You say almost proudly. Choso laughed and it was an amazing sight. This expressionless boy who sat silently at dinner could in fact speak when he wanted to. You envied this in him.

"Now that smile is ok." Choso said and then turned on your system. You hadn't even realized you had smiled. That heavy tense feeling you usually had vanished. It was nice. This night you did in fact make a friend who quickly became your best friend.
