Aemma sat on the terrace with Helaena as her uncles and brothers trained to fight in the courtyard. The young princes swayed their wooden swords, barely hitting the target with a great amount of uncoordination. Helaena, as per usual, was inspecting a peculiar insect that was crawling on her hand. Helaena wasn't much of a talker, she mostly listened to what others had to say. The only person she ever really spoke to more than formalities was her younger brother and her niece. The pair of princesses found comfort in each other, Aemma liked having a girl her age to talk to other than her maid.
She sat on the terrace in utter gloom, needlepointing purple flowers onto a canvas, wishing that there were more engrossing things a lady could do than needle point and take a walk in the gardens to pass their time. Although she hated needlepointing, she happened to be very good at it, just like everything else she did. She had to be good at it, she didn't rest until she was good at it. Aemma was a bit of an overachiever.
"Terribly cruel what happened to my little brother, don't you think, dear niece?" Heleana asks, her attention still completely on the insect on the palm of her hands.
"Indeed it was." Aemma starts, "I hope you know that I had nothing to do with it."
"I know, you would never."
"Do you every think he will get a dragon?" Aemma asks.
It was nearly impossible to gain a dragon at ten and one, unless he claimed one. There were plenty of unclaimed dragon roaming in Dragonstone. There was the Cannibal, Grey Ghost, Sheepstealer, Silverwing. Kings Landing held Vermithor but considering Aemond's numerous failed attempts to claim him, she doubted that it would be the one. The Cannibal hasn't been spotted in years. The others or have never been claimed or lost their rider ages ago, they were savages. It's impossible a boy at ten and one could ever claim them.
"He will, but he will have to close an eye." She mutters.
Aemma snaps her head at her aunt's direction. "What?"
"Jacaerys!" She hears coming from below, automatically shifting her attention to what was happening below them. Ser Criston Cole shoved Jace into the middle of the courtyard. "You spar with Aegon. Eldest son against eldest son."
"Hardly a fair match." Ser Hawrin interferes.
"I know you've never seen true battle, ser, but when steel is drawn, a fair match isn't something anyone should expect." Criston remarks, an unpleased look on his face. "Blades up."
Jace was nowhere near as strong as Aegon was, he was seven years younger. She knew Aegon wouldn't go soft on her brother. "Engage."
Aegon strikes Jace without a second lost and he doesn't stop until Jace falls to the ground in pain. Aemma sighs knowing that she would have to take care of her brothers wounds later on for he will be filled with bruises. She wished she could intervene, grab a wooden sword and whack Aegon senseless until he learned how to be a proper human being. All of a sudden, Jace rose up from the ground and began running after Aegon. He seemed to be doing pretty well, that was until Aegon pushed a target down onto him.
"Foul play!" Ser Harwin intervenes.
"I'll deal with it." Ser Criston calls out.
Aemma had an unpleasant feeling in her belly, something didn't feel right and what frustrated her the most was that she couldn't shrug off the feeling. She put down her canvas and made her way down the stairs, eyes not leaving the two princes sparring in the middle. A giant circle began to form, more whispers being spread about how the two boys were sparring.
"You!" Aegon shouts, stalking over to Jace.
They once again begin to fight. Aegon was as ruthless as ever, not even giving Jace a chance to process what was happening. Cole's comments from the sidelines didn't help either, they just fueled his fury. This continued until Jace was kicked onto the floor, wooden sword out of reach. Cole continued to prompt Aegon with his words as the attack continued.
