Last time we saw our heroes, Lune had claimed his seventh badge, caught two more pokemon for his team and met up with two other legendary bird pokemon, both gifting him his blessing and one giving a cryptic message. The group now make a roundabout trip to Pallet Town to make tracks for Viridian City to tackle the final Gym of Kanto. How will it fare for our young champion?
A Ground-Breaking Discovery!
The Indigo Plateau Redux!
After a trip across the waves, the group wind up back in Pallet Town where they run into Professor Oak. The good professor seems quite excited to see the group, Lune especially.
Oak(Excited): Lune my boy!
Lune: Hey professor, its been a while hasn't it?
Oak: Indeed, but I'm very glad you arrived when you did! I actually have something for you from Professor Rowan!
Lune(Surprise): Really?
Oak: Mhmm. Take a gander at this!
Cassie(Awe): It's so pretty. What is it?
Oak: This my dear trainers is known as a "Key Stone" . Tell me, are any of you familiar with the concept of "Mega-Evolution"?
Lune(Puzzled): Uhh, I've heard the term, but nothing beyond that I'm afraid.
Oak: Then allow me to explain. The concept of pokemon evolution is something that is known the world over so I won't bother elaborating on that front. Mega-Evolution is a different beast, entirely, since while about 85% of pokemon are capable of evolving, only around 2% can Mega-Evolve!
Caroline(Awe): That little!?
Oak: That's right! The act of Mega-Evolution is a kind of evolution that goes one step beyond what is normally attainable in a pokemon. One may already seem fully evolved only for it to be able to take a new form and boosts its battle attributes, albeit temporarily! Some pokemon here in Kanto are capable of such feats, take the three given starters of this region for example, Kangaskhan, Pinsir or Beedrill.
Lune: Hey wait, I have a Beedrill!
Oak: Not so fast my boy, its not that simple. While yes, your Beedrill has the ability to Mega-Evolve, it doesn't have access to it quite yet. Every pokemon that can undertake this phenomena requires a corresponding "Mega-Stone" to go with it, and its different for each pokemon. Some may even posses two different ones, meaning two separate Mega forms!
