Flirting with the Devil
Chapter 1
I was quite exited standing in the airport terminal awaiting Sebastian. My life has been a bit complicated lately and I was looking forward to meeting him. About a month ago I caught my boyfriend and my best friend in bed together. It hurt really badly losing them both at the same time but I’m not the type to forgive and forget so I dumped them both.
Unfortunately for them that meant losing all the status that they had at school. We were in our senior year and me and my ex boyfriend were the most popular couple at school. My ex best friend Tammy only got popular when she started hanging out with me and since I dumped them both nobody is paying them any attention.
I’ve had a lot of guys asking me out but I haven’t accepted any of their offers. I wasn’t ready yet. I dated Joshua for about a year and a half and was battling to get over him although I never let anybody see it.
I’m a good student and am looking to attend Dartmouth next year. The teachers at school all like me since I get straight A’s and my parents always say that I am very mature for my age. I guess I am but it’s because they are both lawyers and I had to learn to take care of myself since a very young age because they are always at work or on business trips.
I held up the board reading SEBASTIAN DUBOIS as I waited for him. I had no idea how he looked so the board was necessary for him to find me. My dad is French which explains my surname and my pitch black hair and brown eyes. He moved to America to further his career and in the process fell madly in love with my mother. About six months ago they decided that it would be nice to have somebody around the house to keep me company so they applied to have an exchange student from France come live with us.
I saw a few people walking my way and was grateful when I saw a guy around my age walking towards me. I’ve been waiting for about two hours because the flight Sebastian was on got delayed.
“Hello, I am Sebastian,” he said in his sexy French accent.
“Hi, I’m Deborah Fournier.”
“It’s a pleasure to meat you Deborah,” he replied, putting down his luggage and kissing me on both my cheeks. I didn’t like that this stranger was kissing me hello but I kept my cool knowing that he was only being polite.
“Come on, let’s go home,” I said, throwing the board with his name on it in a dustbin. He followed me to my car which was a new Mercedes Q7.
He loaded his luggage into the back and then we were off. He didn’t say anything on the drive home and I wasn’t quite sure if it was because he was shy or too caught up in watching the scenery.
When we got home I parked my car in the garage and lead him into our huge house. My parents are very rich which means our house is more like a mansion and that I get almost anything I want. We live in California and our back yard walks out onto the beach which was great because I love surfing and tanning.
“You have a beautiful home,” Sebastian said as I gave him a tour and showed him to his room.
“Thank you, my mom’s put a lot of hard work and money into it so I’m sure she will be very happy to hear you think so,” I replied not knowing what else to say. I was excited to meet him but now I was just feeling uncomfortable.
I have to admit that he was very hot with his black hair hanging in front of his dark brown eyes but I just couldn’t help but feel that there was something wrong with him. It was like he was pretending to be someone he wasn’t and it was starting to freak me out a bit.
“I’ll let you settle in and unpack your things,” I told him, trying to find an excuse to get away from him.
“Thank you,” Sebastian said and disappeared into his room.
I went downstairs to ask Maria our housekeeper to make us lunch and then I changed into my bathing suit grabbed my surfboard and hit the waves. I wasn’t the best surfer but I enjoyed it and it helped me to let off steam. I wasn’t quite sure what to think about Sebastian, he seemed nice enough but I just couldn’t get rid of the strange vibe he was giving off.
After surfing for about half an hour I went back inside, took a quick shower and changed into some designer jeans and a tank top. I went downstairs to check if Maria was done making lunch and walked into the dining room just as she was setting the table.
“Lunch is ready, would you like me to call Sebastian?” she asked.
“No thanks, I’ll go get him,” I said and headed upstairs to get him.
“Sebastian!” I called, knocking on his door.
“Yes,” I heard him say from inside the room and could swear that I didn’t hear a French accent.
“Lunch is ready,” I called, still wondering if I heard right.
“I’ll be right down,” he answered in a perfect French accent.
“Ok,” I said and headed downstairs to wait for him.
I sat down at the table trying to convince myself that I was just being paranoid when Sebastian entered the dining room and took a seat opposite me. He looked nervous but I put it down to being in a new country and living in a new house full of strangers until I saw his eyes.
They weren’t the same color as earlier, they were still brown but lighter and much brighter. Seeing this sent a chill down my spine confirming my earlier suspicions, there was something not quite right about Sebastian.
We ate in silence just looking at each other. I wanted to ask him about his accent and about his eyes but I was to scared. I’m sure he realized that I knew something was wrong because with each second that passed I could see he was getting more nervous. I considered getting up from the table and running away until my parents got home but I knew I couldn’t do that. What would I tell them when I wasn’t even sure what was going on myself.
