I woke up when the voices of "Mandalay" and her, I'm going to guess, friends? They seemed stressed and worried for the boy.

"Guess it's time to bring it back..." I let out a long, gurgled sigh, and lifted the child off my lap, careful not to wake him.

I held him in my arms like a mother would hold her child, I think, I don't know much about parental love.

I walked (skulked?) down the long, winding hallways of the caves, Making my way toward one of the many clearings in the forests. The four voices were radiating from that point, so it seemed like the best option.

I gazed down at the boy, pausing for a second before I stepped into the clearing. I held out my left hand as I created a flower made out of skulk, because of the material the flower won't decay and I'll be able to find him as long as he has the flower on him.

"Kota!" A woman screamed into the forest, her voice laced with worry.

"Sunshine, where are you?!" Another cried, attempting to make themself as loud as possible.

I let out a distorted sigh, loud enough that the adults would hear me.

"Who... Who's there?!" The only man called.

I stepped into the clearing, Kota safely in my hand as I did so.

"Kota!" A woman said as she came charging towards me. The other three adults were on her heels.

"Mandalay, come back! What if you anger it!" One of the other two women said as she chased after Mandalay.

I carefully lowered myself to the ground, knowing that the adults were most certainly frightened by my appearance with the child.

I stroked the small child's hair, letting out gurgled noises as the boy woke up.

"Skulky?" Kota said as he looked up at me.

I chirped when he said the "name" he had assigned me. Happy he was waking up.

I then set him on the ground, so that he was facing me, placing the flower in his hands.

Kota stared at the flower in awe.

"Present from Skulky!" He said happily, doing a little hopping dance that had him turn around, only to find the adults staring at us surprised.

"Aunty! Aunty!" Kota cried, running to, who I'm guessing is Mandalay. "Look what Skulky gave me!" The boy was jumping up and down in front of Mandalay, uninjured and happy.

Mandalay looked from me to Kota several times before kneeling in front of the boy. "That's very nice of Skulky sweetheart, and as such, what do we say when someone does something nice for us?" She asked, smiling at the boy.

"Thank you Skulky!" The boy said, waving at me.

"Skre," I voiced in return, standing on my feet and now towering over the adults.

"Thank you," Mandalay said, "thank you for finding Kota and bringing him home."

I nodded at her, she was a good caretaker and I'm glad she is the one who is raising Kota.

I then turned to return to the forest, walking back to my cave.

I settled down against one of the walls, listing to the slow, pulsing sound which the Skulk gave off, almost like a heartbeat.

I wished I could have stayed with the child, he was kind and wanted no harm for me.

But that couldn't happen. No.

The child needed a real family.

And I don't even have food.

I wouldn't be able to take care of him.

I would just have to watch over him.

I will protect the child.
