Mr. Liam, you are officially divorced; the house and cars, your last name, and all of your finances are going to your now ex-wife, Sarah bloom, who had her career wrecked by your actions.
"What! That's it, huh she gets everything, and I'm with nothing. What a great legal system, judge!."
"Leave Liam, your dismissed."Of all the days, this one has to be the best. Jogging out of the court building can't stop grinning. Outside, breathing in some oxygen.
"wait, I have nowhere to go. I'm broke."
Ohh, what am I supposed to do now? I don't want to beg anyone; I will be damn if I go to a shelter. Surveying looking for a way out.
"mom!"
Pulling out my phone and dialing my mother's number.
"Liam"
"Mom, yes, thank God you picked
, I, um, need help!."
"Your dad and I have heard; we think it's time we cut ties with you for good."
"what? Why!"
"You have completely failed us. You couldn't just live happily with Sarah and give her a child".
"I tried. I don't believe it's my fault you forced me into the marriage. I barely knew her!".
"excuses Liam, that's why we pulled out our money from you. You will never grow up; this is goodbye."
"wha-"
She hangs up, unbelievable the worst day of my life; thank God I still have my job; I worked my ass off to have it; I will wait and see when I'm back on duty.
I'm a cop still always wanted to be one when growing up, my parents made a deal. They paid for everything, and in return, I did what they wanted in the future. I would never have thought they would make me get married. I knew she was wealthy. I heard gossip about her papa, how he's some mafia boss. No proof has been discovered, though. Let's say that the marriage didn't last long, and so I'm here. Her lawyer and judge were in on it a hundred percent. I had no backup, a rotten lawyer that was probably paid off.Ufff collided with a person in front of me.
"Are you ok"
"..."
He doesn't look at me and keeps his eyes on the sidewalk; he has messy black wavy hair it looked unattended to for a while. He has bushy eyebrows and caucasian brown skin with water bags underneath his oval eyes. His face looked so soft, like a baby, and yet he still looked grown to be nineteen. His lips are thin in the middle, puckered out just a bit, and light pink.
I bent down to help him up. Ignoring my hand, he gets up; he's about 6'0 wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, gray pants, and black sneakers. Pulling his fingers, still looking down, I hear him say something back.
"I umm"
He stops and looks at his black watch; his eyebrows jolt up, and he dashes past me.
I see a wallet and open it
"Ethan rose, nice name Ethan, your nineteen, huh? I should follow him and give back his wallet."Following him wasn't hard. He sticks out like a sore thumb. A couple of streets down. On the outskirts of the city. He's entering an ice cream shop. Hearing the bell, I walk in after him.
"Ethan, your late first day on the job. We are about to open up a booming business. We can't afford to slack off!".
" I'm sorry," he mumbles,
"take out the trash. There's a ton of it."
Nodding, he walks past the counter and heads out back.
I see the lady touch the touchscreen on the counter, scrolling.
Walking up to her, I see her nametag,
"Karen"
this should be fun
She looks up with a smile,
"what may I get for you, sir?"
"I'm not here for ice cream; what can you tell me about your new employee Ethan?".
"Oh. Mm, he's quiet, I guess; we don't need him for anything, really. He just needs to take out of the trash for us".
"is that right""yea, the interview for him was the worst. He barely spoke, annoying."
"is it alright if I see him for a minute? He dropped something. I want to Give it to him, ok."
"yea, sure, he's out back in the ally."
"Thanks, Karen"I walk through the back and all the ingredients, chemicals, machinery, and smells of strawberries. There's an exit sign built a door; I walk out, seeing the blazing sun blinds me, squinting; I look for Ethan, my eyes still adjusting to my surroundings.
I am surveying the area I see him taking out the trash-piles upon piles of trash bags on the wall next to the building.
He could barely pick one up. I walk to the trash bags, pick two up, and walk to the dumpster throwing them in
He keeps pretty, staring at me, then immediately looks at the ground.
"Are you ok, Ethan? I could help you with these"
Nothing"Don't worry about what happens back there. I'm not mad; in truth, I'm here because you dropped something."
I hand him his wallet. I am avoiding touching me."thank you"
He says again quietly; I guess that's his voice."he finally speaks!" I say astonished
He cringes at me to get loud." I'm sorry."
I felt terrible for unnerving him."it's just that today is the unluckiest day for me. No money home, nothing
I say, just wanting to get to someone"you..you can stay at my place if you want, for giving back my wallet
Ethan says this slowly.Shocked; I was not predicting this. I need to answer now before he changes his mind
"mm, yea, sure, thanks."
