It's been a week since the dance, and Tyler and Xavier still haven't slowed down. Now that they've seen each other basically naked, they are changing in front of each other more, sleeping in their underwear and making out without their shirts, and Xavier couldn't be happier.

Except that Tyler has been stressed out the last few days. When they aren't making out, Tyler looks nervous. When Xavier finally brought it up, Tyler said he was worried his dad would show up at Parents' day and freak out, as he had on outreach day.

Xavier doesn't think he will, but Tyler isn't so sure.

Now it's finally parents' day. Xavier secretly hoped his dad might surprise him and act like a dad for once, but he was let down again. He looks down at the short apology text from his dad again before he shoes it into his pocket.

It still stung even though it was inevitable. Xavier secretly hoped his dad might surprise him and act like a dad for once, but he was let down again.

However, Tyler is fully freaking out about his dad, and he has been for the last hour. Tyler is sitting on Xavier's lap on their bed, and Xavier is trying his best to comfort him. Parent's day has already started, and they should get down there soon, but Xavier isn't going anywhere until Tyler feels safe.

"He's not going to show up," Xavier replies, trying to calm him, "He hasn't contacted you since you left. He'd say if he were coming, right?"

"He hates texting. Because that means communicating," Tyler laughs dryly, but the nerves in his voice show that he's still freaking out, "I just can't go, not if he's there, and I think he is. I can feel it," Tyler says, and he's breathing like he might hyperventilate.

Tyler hasn't talked to his father since coming to Nevermore. Every time the Sheriff comes into the Weathervane, Tyler ducks into the back room. It hasn't been the best for his tips or his relationship with his manager, but he can't stand seeing him standing there, angry, disappointed, and disgusted.

Tyler feels like this life at Nevermore has all been a dream, a vacation from reality.

"Well, I'll be there with you if he shows up." Xavier says, "He can't do anything if I'm there. I won't let him." he says firmly.

Tyler hugs Xavier, and Xavier hugs back tightly. Tyler is relieved to have Xavier. If he didn't, he'd still be stuck at normie school with no friends eating dinner alone every night. Tyler hugs him tighter.

Xavier keeps hugging him, but he's still surprised at how worried Tyler has gotten over this.

Xavier knew Tyler had problems with his father. Xavier knew Tyler ran away because it sucked living with him. But Tyler looks like he's going to cry.

They cuddle for another hour while Tyler tries his best to breathe. He tells himself that it will be ok, that this is his home, and his father can't take that away.

Eventually, Tyler says, "Ok, let's go down. Enid and Ajax are probably wondering where we are." Tyler gets up and puts on his Nevermore blazer. It's the weekend, but he feels calmer wearing it now.

"Are you sure?" Xavier asks, sitting on the edge of the bed. He's wearing a maroon shirt and sweatpants, and his hair is down.

Tyler gulps, and his stomach twists, but he feels like he needs to do this, "Yeah," he says, "Let's go."
