I paced the familiar halls of the mansion, my hands shaking in worry. This should have been laughable – after all, It was my fault she left.

And yet, there I stood, She was supposed to be a pawn, a means to an end, a tool for my revenge. But the nagging voice in my head wouldn't leave me alone.

I needed to know where she was, I just had to. My steps led me to Nico, absorbed in his world of toys on the floor. My voice came out sharper than intended, "Nico."

He looked up, his eyes wide. "Yes, Papa?"

I held back a sigh. "Has Mama returned?"

Nico shook his head, his attention swiftly returning to his toys. "No, Papa. Mama said she's gone for a walk. She'll be back soon."

I nodded, muttering a thank you and I turned away, my fists clenched, suppressing the emotions that threatened to rise. This wasn't about her. It was about power, about revenge.

But the image of her, walking alone, vulnerable, tugged at something buried deep within me. I pushed the thought aside,

Don't go there, Ace. You made her hate you, and it's done.

Sentimentality was a weakness I couldn't afford in my world of blood and power. Emotions were nothing but distractions, vulnerabilities to be exploited.

A  nagging doubt lingered. No matter how much I despised her for what she had done to me, there was something that refused to break. Stupid girl with her beautiful face

As the minutes stretched on, the mansion seemed to grow heavier, the silence more suffocating. I moved through the hallways, Every ticking second only heightened my unease.

Nico's voice echoed in my mind. Mama said she'll be back soon. It was a simple explanation, a detail that should have been insignificant. And yet, my mind refused to let go of it.

The sun began its set causing long shadows across the hallways. With each passing moment, the voice of doubt grew stronger, I needed to know where she was, not out of concern of course, but to ensure the smooth execution of my plans.

Frustration simmered within me as I dialed her number, A part of me wanted her to answer – to unleash her anger, to yell at me, to scream, to hurt me.

A̶n̶y̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ t̶o̶ m̶a̶k̶e̶ s̶u̶r̶e̶ s̶h̶e̶ w̶a̶s̶ o̶k̶a̶y̶

But the call went unanswered, going to voicemail.

I hung up the phone, my frustration increasing. Where was she? What was taking her so long?

I leaned against the wall and my eyes fell on Nico again. Despite what I may have told Alessa, I loved Nico. How could I ever hate my own child. He deserved more, deserved a better life and a better father.
