"What? Whatch'ya mean 'What are you feeding?'" Eleanor replies, confused. "It's just my baby boy." In her eyes, it was a normal mini-chipmunk. Glossed over, big blue bug eyes. Tiny paws that reach up to touchyour face... How adorable! But in Jeanette's eyes, it was a whole different story.
In their 5 years of friendship, Jeanette had never seen Eleanor's baby until now. If you could even call it a baby? Its long, wriggling, moist worm-like 'pincers' dangled from its mouth, where it was being fed its food. The pincers were slinking around the small spoon and sometimes Eleanor's hand, dampening both of them. Its eyes were bulging, a bloodshot red, bright veins sticking out like a sore thumb. Its greasy, oily red mangled flesh oozed blood, seeping through the fabric of the highchair. The bones were sticking out and the yellow clacking teeth were crooked and jagged. And the maggots, oh God, the maggots. Wriggling everywhere and climbing up Eleanor's arm, but she didn't notice, or even, she didn't care. It made me want to- I mean, it made Jeanette want to hurl.
Jeanette remain frozen to the spot, paralysed in fear and disgust. She couldn't breathe. Her head was pounding, splitting even, as if the thing Eleanor was feeding knew what she was thinking and decided to punish her. Cold sweat ran down her forehead and trickled down her nose. This couldn't be real. No.. no. What was happening? Jeanette managed to balance herself, just enough so she could relieve herself of the nausea and dizziness. She hurled everywhere, vomit spewing all over Eleanors house, Eleanor, and the Thing she was feeding.
