Inside the Deku Tree was huge--almost bigger than he looked on the outside, even! My face twisted into a look of disgust at seeing everything covered in webs. "Blegh, there's spider webs everywhere! I HATE spiders..." I shivered at the thought of having to face a spider causing the Great Deku Tree's curse, but it had to be done. I looked around to the upper floors of the tree and saw a bunch of platforms and doors. I didn't see much on the first floor, so I guess I'd start my search on the second. After finishing my analysis of the immediately visible area, Navi chimed in. "Look, Mara. There's a pit over here. You can probably take a look through these holes in the web." I reluctantly walked toward the giant web covered hole in the center of the floor that she'd mentioned. I leaned over the side, careful not to step on the web for fear of falling through.

That was when a Deku Baba decided to spring out of the ground and nicked me in the back, sending me tumbling onto the web. Thank the goddesses it wasn't a normal spider's web, or I'd have fallen right through. "Geh! What the--who did that?!" I looked behind me and saw the plant like monster smacking its jaw at me. Unlike the first few I'd faced outside, this one was actually trying to do some damage. Good thing they couldn't walk or it would have bitten me again--not that they were strong, but Deku Baba bites still hurt bad enough. "Wanna bite people, huh? Then chew on this...!" I pulled out my sword and cut the plant by its stem before it could take another snap at me, picking up the deku stick that it left behind.

I stepped off the web before it decided to break with me on it. From what I'd seen earlier though, I was going to have to find a way to break it, if I wanted access to the deeper floors of the Deku Tree, since I wasn't about to go getting that sticky webbing on my sword any time soon. I headed over to a wall that had a long patch of vines growing along its side. "The vines growing on this wall give it a rough surface. Maybe you can climb it?" I nodded in agreement to Navi. "Yeah, I think so." I grabbed the vines, trying to get a firm grip on it, before taking my feet off the ground and moving them to get a good grip on the wall. So far so good; I'd climbed a few inches up the wall before I lost my footing and hit the ground on my rear end. "Ouch! That hurt like hell..." I stood up, rubbing my now sore butt when I heard Navi giggling at my failure. I threw a mean look her way before dusting myself off and trying to climb the wall again.

"Too bad I can fly and you can't, huh?" I crossed my arms and pouted. "Shut up, Navi. I'd like to see you try doing this, miss fairy wings..." I had tried at least ten to fifteen times to climb the stupid wall, failing each time before I decided to give up. If I'd kept going, my poor fanny would be sore for the rest of my life--I'm over exaggerating, of course... I smacked the dirt off my tunic and looked around to see if there was another way up the wall. Good thing I was able to spot a ladder to the right of the entrance. I ran over to it and climbed up to the next floor quickly. "There we go. Wish I'd looked for this earlier." I started running up the spiral ramp, having to jump over two breaks in the platforms before I stopped in front of a large chest. I opened it, having to prop myself on the front again as I did before with the Kokiri Sword's chest, before pulling out a Dungeon map, holding it over my head in the air again. I don't think I'll ever get use to actually doing that myself rather than seeing it.

"Well, at least now I'll know which rooms I'm going into." I rolled up the map and stuck it under my hat before finally noticing the SHK-SHK-SHK noise coming from the vine covered wall in front of the chest. As if the vines themselves weren't bad enough on their own. I'd have to get the hang of this wall climbing thing if I wanted to go any further up the tree, AND I had to get past three spider-like monsters that looked like they were wearing...skulls?. "Eugh... I REALLY don't wanna climb this wall..." Navi sighed before tugging on a piece of my hair sticking out of my hat. "Well too bad, princess. You're climbing that wall. It's the only way to the upper floors."
