❝Since our date.❞

Tuesday wasn't much fun for Ruhi since all her close friends were still ignoring her. She knew she should be the one to apologise and not that other way around. But something stopped her from doing so. Wednesday and Thursday flew by. Ruhi felt lonely. All her friends were there, talking to each other, laughing, smiling but going hushed and moving away whenever they saw her.
Aditya had inquired about their weird behaviour to Ruhi. Ruhi only shrugged, mumbling something on the lines of it's not like I care if they talk to me or not. Aditya had only furrowed his eyebrows before walking away.
A hollow feeling gnawed at her heart whenever she saw people talking, laughing and joking. She was reminded of how much lonely she was. No friends, no annoying each other and no inside jokes. She wouldn't have to face all this if she wasn't so self absorbed to look at her surroundings. If only had she thought about how her friends feelings, only if she hadn't been so insensitive...
When Friday came, Ruhi felt an overwhelming sense of relief. She would be free for two days. To think things through and try to sort them out. By next Tuesday, she might even have her friends back. She smiled warmly at the thought.
Entering her class, she spotted Suhana reading something, sitting in their seat. She was grateful that she hadn't changed seats yet. She walked up to her seat and plopped down on the bench. Her backpack slide down her shoulder and fell with a thump on the ground. Suhana looked up from her book at the backpack before silently returning to read her book without any indication that she had acknowledged Ruhi's presence.
Ruhi felt suffocated. She had to seat there beside Suhana for the rest of the day, without speaking. She had to list to Suhana laughing at something Shriya said or gossiping with Krittika about the latest 'scandals' or just simply talking about studies. She missed all of these; missed the inside jokes between them, the intensive discussion about their love life, the future plannings and everything.
Sighing, she rested her head on the desk. Suddenly, she felt something poking her arm. She looked up to see Suhana sliding a note in front of her. Before Ruhi could say anything, Suhana got up with her book and with an exaggerated enthusiasm hugged Shriya. Suhana's laugh was louder than usual and had a sharp edge to it, as if she was forcing it all; pretending to be better when she was as broken as her friend.
Ruhi read the note.
Today is the selection day. All the best.
Her eyebrows scrunching up in confusion. What selection? She couldn't remember anything that involved selection. All of a sudden it dawned on her. The selection for the inter-school competition. She rubbed her eyes with the heels of her palm. Frustration was building inside her. All of these drama, which had been created by her, had made her forgot something as important as this. The urge to slap herself was so overwhelming.
